Offer Description
Research project that will be developed: The aim of the project is to develop new optimization techniques for the automatic synthesis of autonomous agents, with a focus on the transparency and interpretability of their control policies. The agents considered include physical entities (robots), simulated entities, and software agents that interact autonomously in complex systems.
The main goal is to overcome the limitations of current synthesis methodologies, often based on "black-box" approaches that make it difficult to understand and verify the behaviour of agents. The project will focus on the development of optimization algorithms that allow generating agents whose decisions and actions are easily understandable.
A particularly interesting application area is cybersecurity. In this context, the autonomous agents developed in the project can be used for autonomous vulnerability detection, attack detection, and proactive attack mitigation. Agent transparency and interpretability are key elements to ensure user and operator trust in security systems based on autonomous agents. The ability to understand the reasons behind agents' decisions is essential for the verification, validation, and certification of such systems.
This project is in line with the Italian and European strategies for technological autonomy in the cybersecurity and artificial intelligence sector and contributes to SDGs 8, 9 and 16.
