Drawing on a broad range of cross-functional knowledge and technical ability, gained through experience across the development lifecycle, you will be instrumental in forming the creative direction of our title in collaboration with the Studios leadership team. As the evangelist for the title, you will present the strategy and progress to Studio and Meta executives as well as the development team. Working in an inclusive and diverse Studio you will lead and inspire cross-functional teams to contribute to the transformation of the creative vision into a variety of systems and mechanics that take music-driven game content, established by our iconic VR title Beat Saber, to the next level. While your designers focus on their areas of ownership, you’ll pay attention to the larger picture, overseeing the game’s overall outcome: progression, pace, balance, and – of course – quality. You will ensure that all elements related to design work together cohesively to fit the intended experience and make it fun. Game Director Responsibilities: Work with the Studio Leadership team to develop and maintain the creative vision and direction for our games, ensuring alignment with the studio's overall strategy and goals. Develop your game design direction, evangelize this with the design team and across the wider development team. Lead the studio design team providing, coaching, mentoring, feedback and driving their personal and professional growth within the studio. Provide your team with the general guidelines to design their specific gameplay features and allow them the flexibility to experiment and iterate. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define game concepts, mechanics, and features, and ensure that they are implemented effectively. Lead the development of game prototypes, vertical slices, and other proof-of-concepts to validate game ideas and mechanics. Support your game design team developing their features and provide mentorship and constructive feedback to achieve quality. Adapt to technical and production constraints, feedback, and play test results, readjusting your design direction when need be. Review and assess features to improve, add, or remove components interpreting data to inform decision-making. Partner with production to ensure that games are developed within budget, schedule, and quality constraints, and that they meet the studio's standards for innovation, creativity, and player engagement. Collaborate with Reality Labs’ various departments to ensure successful game launches and ongoing support. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging technologies, and identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation. Occasionally travel locally and abroad to present the game, meet with external and internal partners, visit co-dev studios, etc. Minimum Qualifications: Experience in game development having shipped multiple titles, or equivalent experience, with experience in a leadership role (e.g., Creative Director, Game Director, Lead Game Designer or Executive Producer). Develop and/or champion a high level creative vision and empower the development team to bring their creativity to development in support of that vision. Use structured design principles, support and coach the team to drive innovation and efficient process focused on the games high level vision. An understanding of game development documentation philosophies, pipelines, processes, and technologies. Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make informed decisions quickly. Curious mindset driven to seek out feedback and critique, and the ability to analyze and adapt concepts based on feedback, data and round table discussion. Passion for gaming and commitment to delivering high-quality, engaging experiences for players. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with VR/AR/MR game development. Experience or interest in developing rhythm based, music or action games. Knowledge of game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine). Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
