Position Summary:
Under the license of the Team Physician, the Temporary Assistant Athletics Trainer will provide essential support to our Division I women’s basketball program for approximately a three-month period. This position primarily focuses on delivering healthcare services to women’s basketball student-athletes and others as assigned. The Temporary Assistant Athletics Trainer will collaborate closely with the Strength & Conditioning Staff and other relevant stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Direct Care and Rehabilitation:
o Design, implement, and monitor treatment and rehabilitation programs for student-athletes dealing with time loss injuries or undergoing surgical rehabilitation.
o Maintain electronic medical documentation for all student-athletes on a daily basis.
* Coordination and Liaison:
o Assist in coordinating and overseeing the provision of healthcare services to student-athletes, primarily within the women’s basketball program.
o Coordinate healthcare services for the women’s basketball program as needed.
o Serve as a liaison between the Sports Medicine staff and the Strength & Conditioning staff regarding rehabilitation programs women’s basketball student-athletes and others, as assigned.
o Manage external accounts, including pharmacy and physical therapy, and liaise with medical practices associated with student-athlete care.
o Administrative and Support:
o Assist in the daily operations and upkeep of the athletic training facility, as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Formal Education
o Bachelor’s Degree in sports medicine/athletic training or a related field.
o Current BOC certification.
o Pennsylvania Athletic Training Class A Certification required by the start date.
o Current CPR/AED Certification for the Professional Rescuer.
* Work Experience
o 3-5 years of progressive athletic training experience, including preventive, evaluative, and rehabilitative skills.
o Experience in post-surgical rehabilitation preferred
* Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
o Excellent verbal and written skill
o Ability to interact with a diverse department, coaching staffs, and university constituencies.
o Proven ability to work independently, prioritize, and complete tasks in a timely manner
* Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
o Proficiency in health care insurance issues and drug testing protocols.
o Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Applicable Systems in order to track injury and treatment records of the student-athletes.
* Equipment Knowledge
o Familiarity with therapeutic modalities and rehabilitative equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Formal Education
o Master’s Degree in sports medicine/athletic training or related field preferred.
* Work Experience
o Experience in a collegiate Division I, II, or III program.
o Experience in post-surgical rehabilitation.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
* Travel required
* Some night and weekend hours.
* Must be physically fit to lift equipment, ability to lift student-athletes, heavy manipulation of athlete’s bodies for physical conditioning and physical therapy.
