CALL FOR APPLICANTS FOR AN IT DIRECTOR
Introduction
UWC Adriatic is one of the 18 UWC schools and colleges across the world, sharing the UWC Movement mission to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.
UWC Adriatic offers a challenging holistic, residential educational programme including the two-year IB Diploma (taught in English) to around 180 students from 80 countries. The college mission is to welcome young people at the threshold of adult independence and guide them on the way to being compassionate and conscientious individuals with the energy and understanding to work for positive change.
UWC Adriatic has around 60 members of staff – including teachers, administrative and service staff and collaborators, many of whom live in Duino in College premises.
Core Responsibility
The person will be responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and operation of computer systems. Their task is to manage all the hardware and software components in use to ensure the functioning of the IT infrastructure, including computers, printers, servers, databases, software programs, internet, and intranet connections.
Additionally, they will coordinate all IT services of the College, ensuring that the services provided to students and employees are adequate and up-to-date in relation to the continuous evolution of available technologies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Coordination of IT services for a community of approximately 180 students and 60 teachers, staff, and collaborators. The department is made up of 2 people including the IT Director.
* Management of network security for the intranet and internet, including GDPR compliance issues, and collaboration with an external provider for firewall management.
* Installation and maintenance service for the hardware and software components of computers that are part of a local network, including defining network access procedures.
* Management of the College’s servers in a hyper-converged system, in collaboration with the vendor.
* Management of the Windows domain (approximately 60 users) and connectivity for all students and guests (approximately 200 users).
* Management of the Gmail domain used by all users.
* Troubleshooting and support service for users (staff, teachers, and students), including peripheral installation.
* Monitoring the proper functioning of computer systems, including updating programs and operating systems for computers and servers.
* Backup monitoring and data recovery plans for emergency situations.
* Support for offices using external management systems (Isams, Salesforce).
* Planning and management of IT and infrastructure purchases in collaboration with the purchasing department.
Requirements
The ideal candidates will possess the following:
* A Bachelor degree in computer science or related field;
* Excellent verbal and written Italian and English language skills;
* Knowledge of LAN/WAN network operation, design and configuration;
* Knowledge of network protocols (ISO/OSI, TCP/IP, routing);
* Knowledge of Microsoft and MAC operating system configuration;
* Understanding of computer system security aspects, including firewalls, access control, antivirus, and backup systems;
* Knowledge of Windows Domain and Gmail;
* Knowledge of Windows Server 2019, Active Directory, Domain Controller, PowerShell, DNS, DHCP, GPO, File Server;
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office;
* Knowledge of database operation, MYSQL, and PostgreSQL;
* Knowledge of VOIP communication systems;
* Problem solving capacity;
* Very good communication skills and ability to lead innovation and strategic planning of the IT infrastructure;
* High level of personal integrity;
* Willingness to engage with the life of the College.
Selection Process
All applications will be formally screened by a Selection Committee in order to evaluate the qualifications and the professional experience of the candidate according to the above-mentioned requirements.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to participate in an interview and in a practical task. Interviews will be held in Duino, either in person or remotely.
In line with the UWC Adriatic Regulation on Safeguarding, the selected candidate will be asked to provide active and verified references before being employed.
Employment Conditions
The successful candidate will be hired by the College on a full-time private law contract. The role will be placed in salary band D (directive) at a level commensurate with their experience and qualifications according to the provisions of the “Federculture” collective labour contract.
