Company Description
Sous Chef
Full time, permanent role
The Hoxton is getting ready to open its doors in Florence, capital of Italy’s Tuscany region and home to some of the world’s most famous masterpieces of Renaissance art, architecture and monuments. This eye-candy city is packed with culture and is the birthplace of gelato – we did not need any persuading to make it our second home in the country.
The Hoxton in Florence will feature 161 beautiful bedrooms of varying sizes, a large ground floor restaurant, bar, lobby, rooftop and courtyard. There is also a basement meeting and events space.
More about us…
The Hoxton is a series of open-house hotels, each in a neighbourhood that we love. Ever since we opened our first hotel in Shoreditch, we’ve never just been about offering a bed for the night. We want to be more than that: proving style doesn’t need to be sacrificed for good value and providing a place where guests can hang out alongside the locals and submerse themselves in the neighbourhood with vibrant, welcoming public spaces.
Job Description
What you’ll do…
1. Bring delicious menu options to our guests’ tables by overseeing the running of the different sections and running where necessary.
2. Nurture and develop the talent of the kitchen team, creating an environment that brings out the best in them and where they can be themselves.
3. Make sure things are running without hitch, orders and deliveries are coming and going as needed, our service is smooth as chipotle butter, and our food hygiene standards are sky-high.
4. Work with our Head Chef on ideas and techniques that make our kitchen a creative, ever-changing environment where we’re always looking to make the best food out there.
5. In the absence of the Head Chef, you will act in their place to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen.
6. Pay attention to the details to ensure every dish served is as delicious as the one before!
Qualifications
What we’re looking for…
7. Individuals. You’re looking for a place where you can be you; no clones in chef whites here.
8. Passion for hospitality – whether that’s a drink, a meal, an event or a bed for the night.
9. You’re all about having a positive impact on the people you interact with, leaving them with a memorable experience.
10. We leave our egos at the door and help get things done.
11. You’re up for doing things differently and trying (almost) everything once.
12. If we got stuck in a lift together, we’d have a good time and share a few laughs.
13. You want to be part of a team that works hard, supports each other, and has fun along the way.
14. Previous experience as a Sous Chef in a busy, bustling environment with freshness and provenance of ingredients as a key priority.
15. Passion for food is a given, knowing what’s hot, what’s not and who’s who.
16. Ability to take ownership of important issues, solve problems and make effective decisions.
17. Proven track record managing large kitchen teams.
18. A true passion for creativity whilst maintaining the integrity of our brand standards through the dishes on the menu.
19. A natural at leading and managing others, you lead by example and create an environment where your team can be their best self.
