Project Engineer - Land Installation
Job Purpose:
To plan, supervise, and execute the installation of high-voltage and fiber optic cables for onshore energy, grid, and infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the end-to-end installation of underground and overhead cable systems, including trenching, laying, jointing, termination, and backfilling.
* Oversee site surveys, route planning, and civil works to ensure optimal cable routing and minimal environmental impact.
* Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and utility providers to align installation activities with project schedules.
* Supervise cable pulling, splicing, and testing (e.g., HV withstand, OTDR, sheath testing) to ensure quality and compliance.
* Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures for safe and efficient operations.
* Ensure adherence to industry standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, local grid codes) and health & safety regulations.
* Troubleshoot technical issues and provide on-site engineering support during installation.
Requirements:
* Degree or diploma in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
* Proven experience in land cable installation for power transmission, distribution, or infrastructure projects.
* Strong knowledge of cable jointing, termination techniques, and testing procedures.
* Familiarity with cable installation equipment (e.g., cable ploughs, tensioners, winches).
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and cable route maps.
* Relevant safety certifications and permits for construction/utility work.
* Willingness to travel and work on-site as required by project locations.
