The Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia is seeking a staff attorney to work in the Office of the Legislative Counsel. A background or interest in Health and Social Affairs and Education is desirable.The responsibilities of a staff attorney include:Drafting legislationLegal researchProviding legal advice to Members of CongressWorking with the Executive Branch of the FSM National Government on legislative mattersThe work is diverse, ranging from budget legislation to oversight matters and substantive national policy on a wide range of issues.QUALIFICATIONSQualified candidates must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in any jurisdiction. Excellent English language skills are essential. Experience being in government or a developing country is preferred.Compensation includes a base salary between $61,235 and $68,138 based on experience, plus housing allowance and relocation expenses. The successful candidate will be expected to sign a two-year contract and must have the ability to adapt to living and working in both an unfamiliar cultural and social environment.Applicants must submit a cover letter and resume.
