ROLE SUMMARY:
The Science Technician will work with MYP & DP Science Teachers to coordinate resources and facilities, offering assistance and advice on teaching needs. Responsibilities include supporting science staff, preparing, maintaining, safely storing, setting up, and clearing away materials and equipment for lessons. Start date: August 2025, with the option to start earlier if agreed upon by both parties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Support a positive and strong school community through the implementation of the IS Siena Positive Behaviour Policy and the school’s Mission and Values.
* Provide assistance and advice on the teaching needs of the Science Department.
* Ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
* Prepare and set up experiments and demonstrations for classes.
* Assist students and teachers during laboratory sessions.
* Manage and organize laboratory supplies and inventory, including ordering resources.
* Follow safety protocols and ensure a safe laboratory environment.
* Maintain accurate records of experiments, results, and equipment.
* Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with laboratory equipment.
* Stay updated on safety regulations and best practices in laboratory procedures.
* Contribute to the development of laboratory manuals and instructional materials.
* Contribute to school development through active participation in staff professional development.
* Cover lessons for science teachers on an occasional basis.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
* An academic qualification in a Science subject (Chemistry/Physics/Biology).
* A good understanding of science teaching hazards and risk assessment.
* A good level of English - spoken and written.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* The ability to be a team player who can prioritize workload, use initiative and work independently.
* A care and attention for the highest standards of student welfare.
* Confidence with the use of ICT in teaching.
* A personal and professional growth mindset, seeking opportunities to make a significant contribution to the development of our school and the science department.
