Your Role:
As a Public Health Officer, you will be the guardian of health standards on board, ensuring compliance with all applicable public health regulations and company policies. You will play a crucial role in training, mentoring, and supporting the crew to maintain the highest standards of health and safety.
Your Life on Board:
As a PHO on our vessels, you’ll be the Costa ambassador for public health, guiding and supporting our onboard teams with your exceptional people skills. You’ll act as the primary point of contact for all public health matters, ensuring full compliance with company standards.

Leadership: You lead with perspective in a dynamic environment, enhancing the skills of onboard managers and crew to effectively handle public health issues and mentoring and training junior colleagues.
Adaptability: Help us thrive in a fast-paced cruise ship environment, prioritizing workloads and working independently.
Getting Things Right:
Compliance Oversight: On a daily basis you oversee shipboard compliance with public health standards in disease surveillance, food safety, water safety, and pest management.
Additional Projects: Help us participating in additional projects as assigned by the shoreside Public Health Department.
Public Health Culture: You assist the Hotel Director in fostering a work environment that promotes a successful public health culture.
What Makes You Unique:
Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental health, biological sciences, or related fields preferred.
Language Skills: Proficiency in English (B2 minimum).
Experience: Two years of shipboard experience or three years of shoreside experience in public health programs. Knowledge of infection control practices and Vessel Sanitation Standards is preferred.
Certifications: CDC Vessel Sanitation Training, Infection Control Certification, SHIPSAN certification, and other relevant qualifications are advantageous.
Cruise Industry Experience: Strongly preferred.
· Technical Skills: Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and generally computer literacy in order to prepare reports on audits, investigations, inspections, and training activities.
Contract Availability: Willingness to work on a temporary contract of up to 6 months on board followed by around 2 months of unpaid leave.
