ABOUT US
At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarters are strictly interconnected with the other 11 centers around Italy and two outstations based in the US. We promote excellence in basic and applied research such as neuroscience and cognition, humanoid technologies and robotics, nanotechnology, materials for a truly multidisciplinary scientific experience.
YOUR TEAM
You will carry out research in the context of the FAIR project funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The FAIR partnership constitutes a research network of 14 universities, 4 research bodies and 7 companies spread across Italy. Organized according to the "Hub & Spoke" model, each of 10 Spokes addresses a critical aspect of future AI development as reliability, sustainability, adaptivity. IIT coordinates Spoke 10 (Sustainable and Bio-Socio-Cognitive AI).
Within this project, you will join the Humanoid Sensing and Perception research group, with the goal of studying how to deploy latest large vision-language models into autonomous agents. Large vision-language models today exhibit impressive reasoning capabilities leveraging on Internet data for their training. In this project we seek to investigate how to ground semantic knowledge from these models into the physical world, identifying missing information and complement it with the robot's experience to enable action in open scenarios. We will target the application scenarios involving multi-modal object manipulation with anthropomorphic hands.
Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:
1. Study, devise and implement multi-modal models for object perception and control of object manipulation;
2. Research relevant topics; propose, implement and benchmark effective solutions on real robotic platforms;
3. Coordination and collaboration with the activities of other team members in order to meet deliverables and disseminate the research.
