Network Orchestration for Metaverse Applications in 6G Networks The Ubiquitous Internet Research Unit of IIT-CNR (Pisa, Italy) is seeking talented university graduates for research opportunities. We are currently collecting expressions of interest for the following research topic: Network Orchestration for Metaverse Applications in 6G Networks. We plan to open positions at the level of Graduate Research Assistant in this area. This scouting process aims to promote the topic in preparation of the upcoming call. The position at IIT-CNR is expected to be formally announced soon, with activities starting in April 2025. Ideal candidates should hold a Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or closely related disciplines. Knowledge of optimisation approaches, and AI/ML (ML) techniques is an advantage. Experience in network orchestration, network slicing, or architectures for immersive services is preferred but not required. Topic description Emerging cross-reality (XR) applications – including holography, augmented, virtual, and mixed reality – demand unprecedented levels of Quality of Experience (QoE), far exceeding current capabilities. 6G technologies and enablers such as xURLLC, NFV, native Network Intelligence, promise to meet these stringent QoE requirements, delivering ultra-reliable, low-latency communication services. However, as network complexity escalates, it becomes essential to design automated network and resource orchestration methods to optimise network performance proactively and adaptively across the entire end-to-end network architecture, ensuring alignment with the target KPIs. This research aims to design and develop new AI/ML models, optimisation methods and scheduling algorithms for network orchestrators and controllers in future 6G networks to support emerging XR applications over heterogeneous domains and complex network scenarios without a globally synchronised system.
