Proposals that provide comparative perspectives on labor markets across developed and developing countries and include interdisciplinary components are encouraged. Prof. Burdin is an applied economist doing research on labor markets and firm organization. His recent work has focused on understanding the effects of working time regulations, advanced technologies, employee ownership, and other forms of worker representation and workplace social dialogue. His research integrates frameworks from various fields, including labor economics, behavioral economics, organizational studies, and industrial relations. He employs a range of methods and data, including longitudinal administrative data and experimental approaches such as lab-in-the-field, laboratory, and survey-based experiments. Before joining the University of Siena, Prof. Burdin held a Marie Curie Fellowship (2015-2017) and was an Associate Professor at the University of Leeds in the UK (2017-2024). Fellowship Overview The Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF) is a prestigious European funding program designed to support researcher mobility, career development, and training both within and beyond Europe. This scheme provides a competitive salary along with generous research funding. MSCA-PF requires a joint application between the researcher and the University of Siena. Successful applicants will be awarded a two-year full-time employment contract with the University of Siena. The EU provides support for the recruited researcher in the form of a living allowance, a mobility allowance, and if applicable, family, long-term leave, and special needs allowances. In addition, funding is provided for research, training, and networking activities and management and indirect costs. Eligibility Criteria The fellowship is open to postdoctoral researchers who hold a PhD by the application deadline and have up to eight years of postdoctoral experience (with certain exceptions). Eligible candidates must relocate to Siena from another country. A key requirement of the fellowship is that the selected researcher must reside in Siena or the surrounding Tuscany area for the duration of the program, except when traveling for research visits, seminars, conferences, or similar academic activities. Applicants from any country are welcome to apply. However, they must not have lived or conducted their primary activities (work, studies, etc.) in Italy for more than 12 months within the three years preceding the submission deadline (September 10, 2025). Selection Process Applicants must ensure they meet all eligibility criteria before submitting an expression of interest. The submission should include a CV, a brief research proposal summary (approximately two pages), and the contact details of at least one referee. Proficiency in written/spoken English is mandatory. Expressions of interest must be submitted by April 30th by email ( gabriel.burdinunisi.it ). Proposals will be preselected on the basis of internal evaluation. Support for Grant Development and Application In addition to receiving multiple rounds of feedback from Prof. Burdin, selected applicants submitting their proposal to the European Commission will also benefit from guidance and further input from a research advisor at the Research and Technology Transfer Unit of the University of Siena.
