Job Summary:
A Category Analyst plays a vital role in analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data to inform strategies that enhance retail category performance. By turning numbers into insights, you’ll help us drive growth for our retail stores.
Essential Functions of the Position:
1. Product Information Gathering: Collect all necessary product data for the setup of new items, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Review new item forms and coordinate with relevant teams to ensure all required fields are properly filled.
2. Item Distribution Coordination: Send suppliers a list of accepted items and ensure proper product distribution across stores. Monitor and confirm that the products are being shipped to the correct locations in a timely manner.
3. Schematic Placement: Ensure that products are properly placed on store schematics, considering factors like category alignment and space optimization.
4. Support and Communication: Respond to inquiries from buyers, point-of-sale (POS) teams, and field teams regarding product details, availability, and other related questions. Serve as a point of contact for troubleshooting product-related issues across departments.
5. Data Review and Discontinuation Analysis: Regularly review product sales data and trends to identify potential candidates for discontinuation. Collaborate with category managers and other stakeholders to streamline product offerings.
6. Resets and Planogram Support: Assist with store resets, ensuring product placements are aligned with the latest planograms. Work with field teams to address challenges or adjustments during resets.
Knowledge:
1. Proficiency in retail category data platforms.
2. Understanding of store layout and store product a plus.
3. Knowledge of systems, processes, and procedures for administering shelf tag placement and accuracy.
Skills:
1. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
2. Detail oriented.
3. Basic computer skills for operating the POS system.
4. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot table expertise.
Abilities:
1. Ability to adapt to changing situations, manage multiple demands, and work effectively with diverse personalities.
2. Aptitude for making informed decisions quickly, often in high-pressure environments.
Physical Requirements:
1. A significant portion of the day is spent sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
2. Must handle paperwork, files, and documents, including lifting, carrying, and organizing paperwork as needed.
3. Proficiency in using typical office equipment such as photocopiers, scanners, fax machines, and printers.
4. Ability to perform tasks that require fine motor skills, such as using a keyboard, writing, or handling small objects.
Work Conditions:
1. Work Hours: Typically, Monday to Friday, at least 8 hours daily, with occasional overtime to meet project deadlines and availability to work weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays as needed.
2. Environment: Indoor, climate-controlled, with adequate lighting and ventilation.
3. Primary Work Stations: Dedicated workspace designed to minimize distractions, allowing for concentration on tasks.
4. Dress Code: Business casual attire, flexible for more formal or relaxed dress depending on company events or meetings.
5. Exposure: May be exposed to electrical and lighting hazards.
6. Noise Level: Usually low to moderate.
7. Interaction: Constant interaction with team members in an office environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Education: BA/S degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics or a related field preferred.
2. Experience: Over two years’ experience is preferred in data analytics, retail category management, forecasting, or planning.
