NOTE: Position may be filled at the UC-06 or UC-05 grade level. If position is filled at the UC-06 grade level, incumbent may be promoted non-competitively to the UC-05 grade level upon completion of necessary training and after he/she has met the necessary qualification requirements, quality of experience and upon recommendation of the supervisor.

Hauptaufgaben
Incumbent is assigned shift responsibility for operation and maintenance of high-pressure boiler plant(s), gas and oil-fired co-generation (large diesel electrical generator with heat recovery system) up to 5.2 MW of electrical power each, gas and oil-fired heating hot water boiler plants up to 15 MW power and chilled water system, including centrifugal electrical chillers, absorption chillers and cooling towers, and a boiler designed for operation in which steam or other vapors are generated at pressures exceeding 6.9 kilograms per 6.4 square centimeters (15 psi), or a boiler used for heating water or liquid to a pressure exceeding 72 kilograms per 6.75 square centimeters (160 psi) and at temperatures exceeding one hundred twenty-two degrees Celsius (250 degrees Fahrenheit). Monitors and tests the operation of power boiler systems in order to identify malfunctions and potential problems with equipment such as automatic controls, valves, piping, pumps, and related components, expansion vessels. Examines, adjusts, replaces, and repairs equipment, as necessary. Maintains burners, burner nozzles, and orifice assemblies. Locates defects, dismantles, reassembles, and reinstalls components. Performs preventative and scheduled maintenance on plant systems and equipment. Balances, aligns, and maintains pumps, air compressors and natural gas compressors. Repairs or replaces flame gauges, controls, relief valves, and ignition devices. Troubleshoots electrical and pneumatic controls, adjusts and performs limited diagnostic checks on electronic control devices to determine sources of malfunctions of power boilers. Performs major overhauls of the entire system. Works with complex burner management controls, examines electronic and electro-mechanical controls and support equipment for power boilers. In case of parallel connection with municipality grid or in case of complete isolation from the municipality grid, makes co-generators run in manual mode, which is performed either on site on the onboard control panels or by remote using dedicated software. Manages the micro-grid functioning through the MGC (Micro Grid Controller) in automatic mode, semi-automatic mode, and manual mode, as needed. Ensures the overall energy efficiency of the whole base, evaluating/inputting through the MGC the unit costs of fuel oil/natural gas/electricity, monitoring the weather conditions, monitoring the photo voltaic energy production and the BESS (battery energy storage system) energy production. Operates gas, oil fired boiler plants. Maintains proper steam pressure and water temperature at all times by adjusting complex controls and regulating auxiliary equipment including water softeners and feed water heaters. Verifies steam power production. Controls and reports fume emissions through the stacks on an hourly basis, in order not to exceed IFGS (Italian Final Governing Standard) and Italian Safety and Pollution Agency limits. Fires and blows down boilers. Operates and adjusts auxiliary plant equipment. Switches from automatic to manual operation in case of breakdown or malfunctioning, reports evidence of deficiencies requiring major overhaul and repair. Maintains operating logs for shift, and records information concerning operation and maintenance of plant. Through the use of manual, automatic, or microprocessor controls or control systems, monitors, adjusts, and controls all phases of boiler plant operations.
NOTE: Work requires continuous standing and walking. Moderate physical effort is used when adjusting valves. In addition, physical exertion is required in climbing and working in cramped quarters.
Tour of duty is 40 hours per week on 8-hour rotating shifts covering the 24 hours and including weekends and holidays.

3. KNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT AND CONTROLS SUCH AS FEED WATER AND CONDENSE
REGULATORS, PUMPS, AND COMBINATION CONTROL SYSTEMS;
4. TECHNICAL PRACTICES SUCH AS ABILITY TO INTERPRET AND RESPOND APPROPRIATELY
TO A VARIETY OF GAUGES AND METERS, AND TO MAKE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS;
5. USE OF MEASURING INSTRUMENTS AND FAMILIARITY WITH THE USE OF COMPUTER BASED
DIRECT DIGITAL CONTROL, ELECTRONIC SENSORS AND CONTROLS NOT FOUND ON
INDIVIDUAL BOILERS;
6. ABILITY TO INTERPRET INSTRUCTIONS, SPECIFICATIONS, ETC.;
7. DEXTERITY AND SAFETY.
NOTE: At the UC-06 grade level, incumbent is required to attend the training to obtain the "CERTIFICATO DI ABILITAZIONE PER LA CONDUZIONE DEI GENERATORI A VAPORE (Secondo Grado)".

- Obtain and maintain the "PES-PAV" certification in accordance with "CEI 11-27" and "CEI EN 50110-1/2" issued by agencies specialized in technical training.
