Job Description
Work Schedule: Part time or Full Time, will work with school schedule with more hours available during breaks.
The Service Technician Apprentice reports directly to the Lead Mechanic. A Service Technician Apprentice is skilled in the use of tools but lacks advanced experience and knowledge necessary for the more in-depth repair and rebuilding of equipment and generally assists more skilled technicians and does other duties as assigned. A Service Technician Apprentice will have closer supervision initially, but will be developed to be more independent in their work.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
1. Responsible for the completion of work assignments: Must be able to demonstrate measurable improvement. Demonstrates the ability to use online parts books and service manuals. Demonstrates the ability to read and use all measuring devices such as dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, voltmeter, and pressure gauges, or such devices that are commonly used in work assigned. Capable of properly starting and operating equipment sold and serviced by the company.
2. Complies with routine reporting requirements: Completes appropriate paperwork regarding work assignments. Fully understands the use and purpose of all forms pertinent to the Service Technicians in the Service Department. Such forms include, but are not limited to: service reports, parts order forms, parts return forms, shippers & receivers forms, work orders and time cards.
3. Maintains communications with Lead Mechanic and co-workers regarding work orders: Establishes and maintains communications with the Lead Mechanic and co-workers regarding assigned work orders and pertinent details regarding those work orders. Works compatibly with other personnel of the Company, and is able to understand and properly execute instructions given.
4. Responsible for maintaining an organized and safe work station: Conducts an ongoing inspection of work area, organizing work station and removing unsafe conditions.
5. Responsible for following all safety procedures and maintaining MSHA compliance.
6. Performs other miscellaneous duties as required: Gives assistance to other department personnel as required. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Branch Supervisor/Shop Manager. May be assigned to specialize in specific areas.

The employee must be able to exert push/pull forces with the arms in order to use various wrenches and tools. The employee must be able to endure prolonged forward and overhead arm positions while performing mechanical operations. The employee must be able to use the hands to grasp hand tools and parts. The employee must have the ability to climb onto and operate equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent education level is required. Working toward, or having just completed an Associates Degree Program in diesel/heavy equipment repair.
SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to leaders and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
