Job Description
We have a key leadership position opening for a highly motivated European based Vice President of Business Development. The selected candidate will play a critical role in driving the company’s growth by developing and executing business development and go to market strategies to expand our European client base and enhance profitability while cultivating and fostering relationships with key decision-makers at Biotech, Pharmaceutical companies, and Not-For-Profit Organizations to secure business opportunities for the Company.
Reporting to the Global Head of Business Development, the accomplished candidate will be a success-driven individual who is well networked within the European life sciences industry. The candidate will be able to work remotely and independently, with dedicated support from the IRBM team, identify opportunities and strengthen partnerships within key European hubs, as well as grow and lead a European business development team. A collaborative attitude and ability to multitask are essential for this leadership position, as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet corporate deadlines. Candidates with prior experience in the field of drug discovery will be given priority.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership:
Identify key hubs for establishing and leading a European drug discovery business development team. Onboard candidates, provide best practice training, leadership, mentoring, professional guidance, and performance expectations to ensure success within IRBM.
Develop a continuous education and professional plan for each team member to ensure team success.
Strategy:
Collaborate with the executive and scientific management team to define and implement the overall short- and long-term business development strategy, aligning it with the company’s operational goals and vision.
Analyze, on an ongoing basis, drug discovery market trends, competitive landscape, and industry developments to identify potential business and scientific areas for growth.
Lead the development, growth and achievement of strategic imperatives providing plans, targets, timelines, and resourcing requirements.
Business Opportunities:
Define the European drug discovery go to market strategy.
Leverage industry and customer networks to build new/expand relationships.
Proactively seek out and identify potential clients and collaboration opportunities through market research, networking, and attending industry events.
Develop outreach material that highlights IRBM’s high science and deep history. Define and articulate IRBM’s value proposition to prospective clients with a focus on Europe.
Drive the sales process from opportunity to close on an individual basis. Support team members.
Nurture strong relationships to ensure client satisfaction.
Achieve personal designated yearly sales goals within the assigned geography.
Requirements Qualifications:
Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree in a relevant scientific discipline; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
10+ years of experience with increasing responsibilities and working knowledge in drug discovery business development within the contract research, pharmaceutical, biotechnology or academic technology transfer field.
Demonstrated track record of market awareness, developing strategic direction and plans for corporate promotion and client engagement with emphasis in European geographies.
Proven track record of successful team leadership and management of a sales team, with particular emphasis on remote and cross functional locations.
Excellent communication, negotiation, time management and presentation skills.
