Research at DISI relies on a strong international network and is driven by three core objectives: frontier research, knowledge transfer, and technology transfer. The Department’s research activities are structured into research programs that align with the three strategic dimensions of DISI’s research: Methodological research – advancing and disseminating theoretical foundations within the scientific community. Technological research – translating scientific methodologies into high impact technologies. Application labs – fostering collaboration with industry partners, research centres, and end-users to validate cutting-edge solutions and drive technology transfer. Successful candidates are expected to make significant contributions to one or more of DISI’s research programs or to contribute to creating new programs: Cyber Security Data Intelligence Deep and Structured Machine Learning Embedded Intelligence and Robotic Systems Language, Speech, and Interaction Machine Learning and Intelligent Optimisation Multimedia Signal Processing and Understanding Quantum Information and Computing Remote and Distributed Sensing Signal Processing and Recognition Bioengineering Social Informatics and Digital Transformation Software Engineering and Formal Methods Systems and Networks Wireless Networking, Sensing, and Localization The Department also welcomes strong candidates to start new research areas, such as computational chemistry or in interdisciplinary areas that lie at the intersection between systems and artificial intelligence, with a focus on people, society, and well-being. The Department particularly values candidates who are willing to engage with industry and society to facilitate knowledge transfer and develop activities with a significant societal impact.
