General Description of the area:
The Packaging Engineer is part of the Hill's EMEA Packaging team; the EMEA Packaging team supports and works with the Marketing, Supply Chain, Procurement, R&D and other functional teams.
The team is responsible for identifying and implementing technical and innovative solutions in a very challenging environment having a special focus on continuous improvement, funding the growth, innovation and sustainability. The team is dislocated in different EU regions providing its expertise locally and regionally to its partners for fast validation and commercialization.
Key Responsibilities of the role:
* Works with Plant operations, Marketing, R&D, Procurement and other functional teams to develop and implement complex packaging-related projects with minimal supervision.
* Initiates and coordinates line trials and post trial activities, leads technical discussions with suppliers and plant staff.
* Records and analyzes test data and prepares reports to provide recommendations and conclusions to the business.
* Deeply understands the correlation between material performance and final package performance to master the validation and creation of new packaging specifications.
* Build competitive advantage by identifying and evaluating opportunities in design trends and innovation as well as by scouting supplier and competitor new developments.
Skills and Education Requirements
* Bachelor Degree in Packaging Engineering, Material Science or relevant technical field.
* 3 or more years of experience in packaging (preferred if in the food packaging field).
* Experience with rigid and flexible packaging for retorted products.
* Capable of working in a stressful environment, able to evaluate and manage risks in the decision making process, owns troubleshooting mentality and openness to dialogue.
Basic requirements include:
* Advanced level of English, verbal and written communication.
* Must be proficient with the following platforms:
o Google Mail, Docs, Sheets, Slides.
o SAP or similar ERP system.
o Cape Pack or similar packaging palletizing software.
