Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant Staff applies accounting principles to various issues and transactions, ensures accurate financial reporting, and supports the month-end and year-end close processes. This role involves preparing audit-ready journal entries and general ledger reconciliations and participating in annual and specialized audits. The Senior Accountant Staff collaborates with other departments to resolve accounting issues, analyze financial results, and uphold financial reporting standards.
Essential Functions of the Position:
* Supervise and assist in the period-end financial close process.
* Oversee, support and review the accounting team's daily and weekly tasks, including journal entry review and other responsibilities.
* Supervise and assist with month-end inventory reconciliation and gross profit reporting.
* Ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting entries and financial data through thorough review and investigation.
* Work to enhance overall accounting processes and procedures.
* Conduct technical accounting research and document new and existing policies and procedures.
* Create, document, and improve department procedures.
* Assist in financial and tax audits including interacting with external auditors to provide timely support and explanation of GL balances and accounting practices and guidelines.
* Participate in cross-functional projects to provide financial expertise.
* Perform P&L and Balance Sheet fluctuation analysis.
* Maintain a separation of duties and ensure all work complies with company, State, and Federal accounting practices and applicable laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
* Maintain and review lease-related accounts which includes communicating with property managers for details.
* Prepare and file Sales and Use taxes.
* Ad-hoc reporting.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge:
* Must have a strong understanding and working knowledge of GAAP.
* Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Netsuite, SAP, Oracle, Great Plains, Business Central) and proficiency in using Microsoft Office for financial analysis, reporting and presentations.
* Knowledge of applicable accounting policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting to internal management and external stakeholders.
* General understanding of end-to-end retail operations, from the procurement of merchandise to a sale and invoice matching.
* Intermediate skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Microsoft Dynamics – Great Plains knowledge a plus.

Physical Requirements:
* Significant portion of their day sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and performing administrative tasks.
* Must handle paperwork, files, and documents, including lifting, carrying, and organizing paperwork as needed.
* Proficiency in using typical office equipment such as photocopiers, scanners, fax machines, and printers.
* Ability to perform tasks that require fine motor skills, such as using a keyboard, writing, or handling small objects.
Work Conditions:
* Work Hours: Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays, as needed.
* Environment: Indoor, climate-controlled, with adequate lighting and ventilation.
* Primary Work Stations: Dedicated workspace designed to minimize distractions, allowing for concentration on tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:
* Education: A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
* Experience: Over five years of accounting experience is required.
* CPA or working towards obtaining a CPA license is a plus.
