Job Description: Production Shift Supervisor
Department: Production Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Director of Operations Revision Date: 3/6/2025
Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000
Description : The Supervisor’s role is to lead and coordinate a production team to accomplish Pelican Wire’s safety, quality, cost, and delivery standards while following our core values of Willing, Innovative, Results Driven, Employee Owners and Development. Our supervisor coordinates work schedules, staffing requirements, and production sequences to maximize productivity. Monitors production activity, identifies process problems, troubleshoots causes and develops solutions. Our supervisors also suggest improvements to improve safety.
Management Skills:
* Ensure work area follows 6S.
* Partners with HR Department for employee related issues and compliance.
* Identification and resolution of Safety and Quality issues ensuring compliance to Wire Experts Group Owner’s Manual and ISO 9001 standards.
* Drive for Results by managing production employees to ensure that they are in the right place at the right time to meet production schedules.
* Read, analyze and interpret job specifications, job orders/travelers, set-up sheets to ensure that customer requirements for quality, cost and delivery are met.
* Make decisions concerning production schedules, staffing requirements, duty assignments, work procedures, production sequences while considering budgetary limitations and time constraints.
* Administration of ERP system through accurate information entry.
* Attend operational meetings, if shift allows, and be prepared to discuss and report KPIs for the following topics: staffing, scheduling, maintenance, safety, department efficiency, overtime and other assigned issues.
* Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments and shifts.
* Actively participate and discuss operational issues during the daily shift GEMBA walk.
Leadership Skills:
* Monitor and coordinate employee training in equipment operations, work and safety procedures, along with onboarding new hires.
* Ensure that all employees have the information, tools, training, and resources needed to accomplish their job.
* Develop employees for their next role.
* Ability to instill teamwork, delegate effectively, and build collaborative relationships.

Skills/Qualifications:
* Strong written and verbal communications skills. Generate and distribute shift report.
* Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and six sigma principles. Able to implement improvement and communicate / teach manufacturing team.
* Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot inefficiencies with operation/production activities.
* Demonstrated proficiency in various computer programs including Microsoft Office.
* Strong problem-solving skills.
* Product knowledge in the wire industry.
* Ability to lead and work in teams and across departments to meet company needs.
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent and 3 years’ experience in supervising employees in a manufacturing environment or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
Work Environment:
Work is primarily indoors in a climate-controlled manufacturing building; noise level is moderate. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
Physical Demands:
While performing the responsibilities of the job:
* Talk, hear/listen, stand, sit and walk throughout the day.
* Frequent use of hands and fingers, to handle or feel.
* Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach for, lift and /or move up to 55 pounds, push, pull, handle and grasp objects.
* May be required to operate a forklift.
* Ability to see details at a close range, as well as identify colors on Munsell chart.
* Inspect materials (small gauge wire), products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
* Observe work and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
Travel Requirement:
Occasional travel is required for interplant, customer, or supplier visits and external training.
