The Principal Engineer (Cruise Ships) is responsible for reviewing drawings of cruise ships during and after construction for compliance with the applicable class and regulatory requirements
What You Will Do:
* Acts as a specialist for ABS in applying rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles, and processes to new and existing cruise ships..
* Maintains an active awareness of new methods and developments affecting the technical scope of cruise ships and recommends changes in the plan review processes as warranted by such developments.
* Recommends new approaches to problems encountered and changes methods, procedures, or design where necessary.
* Plans, schedules, coordinates, and executes various phases of engineering work and monitoring the quality of service on work performed.
* Monitors work and projects performed by other engineers to ensure maintenance of quality, content, consistency, and continuity of work performed.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or other related discipline.
* At least six (6) of experience in the marine industry with exposure to cruise ships at a Class Society or Designer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Detailed knowledge and experience about classification and regulatory requirements associated with:
o Structural fire protection
o Active fire protection
o Lifesaving appliances
o Means of escape
* Preferably to have knowledge of evacuation modeling.
Reporting Relationships:
The incumbent reports directly to the Director level or higher. This position does not have any direct reports.
