Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Program Manager Discipline: RN Duration: Ongoing Employment Type: Staff JOB SUMMARY The Program Manager of Nursing Practice at North Mississippi Medical Center, in the Nursing Leadership department, is responsible for assisting with coordinating the Nurse Extern, Nurse and Graduate Nurse Programs, and serving as a liaison with the Schools of Nursing in assisting with nursing recruitment pipeline, the apprenticeship program and scholarship recipient selection. This position is responsible for serving as the NDNQI site coordinator and ensures accurate data collection, entry and dissemination, supporting System Education with Nursing and Annual Competencies, supporting Nurse Managers with performance improvement, nursing policy and practice, compliance with regulatory accreditation functions, and for ensuring patient and family-centered care is taught, consistently demonstrated, and practiced in all training sessions and environments, thereby supporting the continuous improvement of patient and family experience. In addition, this position is responsible for supporting Shared Governance, Clinical Ladder, and Nursing Excellence Programs within nursing to enhance nursing staff satisfaction and engagement. As Program manager, this role is responsible for optimizing operations and ensuring effective program management. JOB FUNCTIONS Staff Development and Management: Works closely with nursing leadership and ancillary departments to maintain a positive patient and family-centered care environment within NMHS and its affiliates. Assists the Director of Nursing Practice, System Education and other members of the Nursing Leadership team with developing and implementing staff training and development programs to meet continuing education and contractual requirements and to further knowledge of medical care and working in a team environment. Assists Nurse Managers with activities in compliance with the medical plan of care, regulatory, and accrediting agency standards. Assists nurse managers and educators in coordination and scheduling of educational classes and other training needs related to staff development. Performance Improvement: Supports Director of Nursing Practice and Nurse Managers in assessing results of Performance Improvement indicators, developing and implementing programs based on this data to improve quality of care. Performs chart audits and supports the Nurse Managers in assisting with education. Resource Asset: Assists with preparing short and long-term planning and programs to address and identify needs. Serves as a resource on multiple decision-making committees. Communication: Creates and maintains good rapport within Nursing Services, ancillary departments, affiliates and other health services. Records: Maintains and reviews educational records of Nurse Externs, Nurse Interns, and Graduate Nurses; to include competency, initial competencies, annual review, and certifications. Research: Supports nursing research projects and disseminates research findings to provide a basis for proposed change. Customer Relations/Satisfaction: Projects a caring, friendly and helpful image to patients and customers. Supports Nurse Managers by performing leader rounding to improve on patient satisfaction and follow up with customer concerns as part of the Nurse Extern, Nurse and Graduate Nurse Programs. Self-Development: Utilizes resources to stay informed of changing trends in nursing practice as well as evidence-based nursing practices. Participates in the servant leadership curriculum. Attends conferences, classes, webinars, and computer-based learning to keep current and learn new healthcare strategies. Regulatory Knowledge: Complies with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements. Promotes constant survey-readiness through interdisciplinary rounding and participation in accreditation surveys. Productivity/Budget: Supports in maintaining supplies inventory by studying usage reports, identifying trends, anticipating needed supplies, and working with the Director of Nursing Practice to ensure approval of requisitions and cost allocations. Supports the Director of Nursing Practice in developing and administering a budget, leading cost-efficient and effective operations, and creating plan of correction for any operating expenses that deviate from budgetary allowance. Supports the Director of Nursing Practice in achieving financial objectives by assisting with preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions. Staffing: Supports Nurse Managers in assuring quality of care by educating on hospital and nursing department’s mission and vision and standards of care; state board of nursing and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations; health outcomes as part of the Nurse Extern, Nurse and Graduate Nurse Programs. Supports the Director of Nursing Practice in the education of the Nurse Extern, Nurse, and Graduate Nurse and assures they understand the requirement of practicing within their individual scopes of practice.
