Within Piano Nazionale Complementare al PNRR (PNC) initiative FBK is looking for a software engineer to develop and maintain microservice-based applications
FBK is a research institution devoted to excellence in research in numerous disciplines and designated to the role of keeping the Autonomous Province of Trento in the mainstream of European and international research. The Digital Health & Wellbeing Center is one of the Centers of the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK). The activities of the Center for Digital Health & Wellbeing mainly concern scientific research of excellence in the field of Computer Science and AI techniques and methodologies for health and healthcare, as well as social and technological innovation for a relevant impact on both the local community and nationally and internationally.
Workplace Description
The candidates will be working in the DHILab - Digital Health Innovation Laboratory Unit of the Digital Health & Wellbeing Center.
DHILab Unit is a laboratory of research and innovation for the design, development, deployment and running of innovative software solutions in digital health. DHILab supports the research activities providing the analysis, design and implementation expertise for building AI-based innovative software components and building and running the infrastructures integrating AI modules that ensure the key requirements both for digital health and trustworthy AI: privacy compliant Data and Knowledge governance and technical robustness and safety. In this context, DHILab works in strict collaboration with the research Units of the center.
Background information and description of research project
This position is offered within the “Piano Nazionale Complementare al Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza iniziativa “Ecosistema innovativo della Salute” (PNC E.3) – Progetto DHEAL-COM (PNC-E3-2022-23683267- PNC-HLS-DH)”. The Digital Health Solutions in Community Medicine project (DHEAL-COM) objective is the strengthening and development of a Life Science Hub at national level (DHEAL-COM HUB) for the co-creation of digital health services where the person’s needs are the starting point.
Job Description
In the context of the DHEAL-COM project, one of the main assets to develop and deploy is an Open Platform for fostering the digitalization of community health services sustainability, accessible by different users, which will include the setup of modular zero footprint web services and the setup of cloud technologies for data and computational tools accessibility. The platform will be connected with the DHEAL-COM Smart Repository. The project task of the DHILab unit is to contribute to design, develop, deploy and run the microservice-based OpenPlatform.
FBK is looking for one software engineer with a good background on Java language and microservice architectures to work on the microservice-based DHEAL-COM OpenPlaftorm. The candidate will be asked to design, develop and maintain the application services constituting the platform and to follow the deployment and maintenance of containerized microservices on a cloud-based infrastructure, to design and develop the connections between OpenPlatform, Smart Repository and Data Lake, and to support the implementation of services for the delivery of digital therapies. On the topics above, the candidate will actively collaborate with software developers, senior technologists, and researchers of the DHWB Center, as well as with national partners involved in the different tasks within the PNC-Dheal-Com initiative.
The expected activities will be:
Definition of platform/product requirements of high-level architectural specifications, ensuring feasibility, functionality, and integration with the existing microservice platform;
Initial design of new software and extensive software revisions;
Monitoring, evaluation, and selection of adequate technologies for the software products;
Deploying, running and maintenance of the platform;
Design and implementation of services for the delivery of digital therapies.
Job requirements
The Ideal Candidate should have:
Master’s degree in areas related to informatics and computer programming;;
Good computer programming skills and knowledge of programming languages: for example, Java (preferably), Python, Javascript, and frameworks like Spring boot, Angular, Vue;
Knowledge of microservice-based architecture, containerization, and orchestration services;
Knowledge of cloud-based infrastructures;
Good knowledge of production rule-based systems like DROOLS;
Experience in software integration tasks and moving products from prototype to production;
Good experience in participation in research projects and collaboration with research teams;
Good experience building real world, production-ready software;
Good experience in development of healthcare IT solutions;
Good level of autonomy in performing tasks;
Creativity and propensity for innovation;
Language assessment according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): level of knowledge required. Knowledge of English will be verified during the interview on a technical or scientific topic and must be equal to or exceed level B2. Selection process and assessment criteria
The Evaluating Committee will be appointed by the HR Director at the end of the application deadline. The recruiting process will be handled in accordance with the “Gender and generational equal opportunities, as well as the employment inclusion of people with disabilities in public contracts financed with the resources of the PNRR and PNC” guidelines and with the Foundation's Gender Equality Plan. The Committee may compile the short-list of the candidates admitted to the interview, remotely or in presence. The short-list shall be compiled based on the requirements set out in the call (contained in the requirements of the job description), with the support of the screening of CVs and any other required documents. Candidates with a minimum score will be admitted to the interview phase. Shortlisted candidates must do at least one interview with the Committee. In case of specific need, the Selection Committee can also meet remotely, by teleconference or videoconference, provided that all members can be identified and that they are able to follow and intervene in the discussion, as well as to receive, transmit and view documents. During the evaluation step, evaluation support tools such as tests or questionnaires may be used. Furthermore, group tests and/or practical tests may be administered.
Evaluation criteria
The recruitment process will be based on the total points obtained by the evaluation of the qualifications/expertise and the evaluation of the interview. A maximum of 40 points will be allocated for qualifications and expertise that the candidate expresses on the resume, while the interview will be worth up to 60 points. The interview scores will be assigned to candidates by the Commission according to the following criteria: the presentation of their personal profile, the knowledge about the scientific domain, the working experience in the relevant scientific domain and the language skills. Only candidates obtaining at least 25 points in the evaluation of the qualifications and the expertise will be admitted for the interview. The interview is considered as “passed” if the applicant obtains at least 45 points. The final score will be used to generate the final suitability list for each job position.
Results of the selection process
All candidates will be notified via email once the selection process has been completed. The suitability list may be used to fill the position in case the successful candidate doesn’t accept the job offer.
