The Reliability Engineer/Specialist supports the cement plant Maintenance and Production departments with problem-solving and project execution to reduce downtime, improve processes, and lower operating costs by effectively applying Reliability Engineering methods and predictive/preventive maintenance programs. Inspects and evaluates equipment and develops reliability-centered maintenance programs. Works closely with Planner and Purchasing to establish and maintain an effective Bill of Materials (BOM) process in conjunction with the maintenance program. Troubleshoots problems in the plant by studying and determining root causes of failures. Prepares information to present root cause failure conclusions. Identifies, collects, analyzes, and manages various types of data to minimize failures and improve performance, and will use failure analysis and other types of root cause analysis in support of reliability. Establishes and manages plant vibration and the lubrication and oil analysis programs for all systems. Establishes and maintains preventative maintenance measures and documentation for all equipment. Maintains and modifies, as needed, the plant engineering systems and library. Manages projects including but not limited to project safety, scope development, budget, tracking/controlling, coordinating with internal resources as well as outside vendors. Assists with departmental budget development, maintenance reporting, and capital expenditure requests. Manages, engages and utilizes all levels of employees to assist in generating creative ways to drive continuous improvement and increased reliability. Fosters a culture of reliability; develops and provides training to personnel to support safety, equipment reliability, and process efficiency. Helps facilitate a culture change throughout the maintenance department. Supervises and leads hourly employees, as needed. Supervises and coordinates the work of contractors. Participates in the rotating on-call duty for the department. Education Mechanical engineering degree preferred, or equivalent/relevant experience/degree will be considered. High school diploma or GED required. Requirements/Qualifications Knowledge of instrumentation, process controls (PLC’s), motors, starters, and VFD’s. Knowledge of fluid systems (compressible and non-compressible), vibration, and rotating equipment. Comprehensive computer software knowledge required including Excel, Word, Project, AutoCAD, and PowerPoint. Ability to work under tight deadlines and to research, resolve, and communicate ambiguous information effectively. Ability to direct, motivate, and coach the activities of others. Ability to exercise sound judgment in problem-solving. Excellent work ethic and a high standard of performance and production. Ability to exercise independent decision-making and prioritize conflicting demands. Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility. Must understand and comply with Lockout/Tagout procedure and safety requirements. Must be able to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language, and communicate positively with employees, customers, and vendors at all levels. Must be able to see and hear safety indicators and warnings. Walk on all types of surfaces (uneven and/or slippery ground). Climb stairs and ladders as high as 200 feet in elevation. Physical ability to climb on equipment to provide supervision during work. Drive automobile to various plant sites and work locations; must be able to travel overnight (air/auto). Possess and maintain a valid class C driver’s license. Must be able to walk long distances, climb ladders, stairs, and stockpiles, stoop, crawl under and into enclosed spaces. Preferred: Working knowledge of SAP Production. Previous experience working in manufacturing or industrial setting. Experience in cement, lime, or similar process. Maintenance or Reliability Engineering experience. Experience working with a union contract. Understanding of California state labor laws related to wage and hour. Experience working in a cement or construction materials plant. Conditions of Employment Successful candidate must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) registration/clearance as well as ongoing alcohol and drug testing.
