Vacancy: SeniorCost EngineerSpecialist (BIW)
Location: Spain or Portugal
Remote working regime: (travel to the client's site occasionally).
Responsible for analyzing, identifying and implementing cost-saving opportunities in the body-in-white (BIW) stage for our client, a world leader in lighting and components for the automotive sector. This role requires working closely with all the team in Design to Cost initiatives, benchmarking, Direct material and tooling costs. This role also involves being communicating with various suppliers to analyse supplier quotes and reach agreement on appropriate costs. Aim is to enhance manufacturing efficiency, optimize material usage, and reduce overall costs without compromising safety or quality.
The activities consist of:
* Supporting projects and cross-functional teams on cost and engineering issues throughout the component life.
* Support supplier negotiations by providing technical cost assessments.
* Propose economic reduction and optimization during cost target development.
* Provide data driven solutions to reduce gaps between objectives and quotations.
* Identify and implement alternative materials or solutions to reduce costs and improve product global efficiency (value engineering and value analysis).
* Support design changes to simplify production and assembly.
* Monitor cost-reduction performance and provide regular reports to management.
* Enhance manufacturing efficiency through process optimization
Job Profile
Education:
* Bachelors degree in business, Finance, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
* 5-10 years of experience in automotive BIW sector OR +10 years proved shopfloor working experience as a technician or skilled worker in metal stamping or in toolmaker companies.
* Hands-on experience with Body-in-White (BIW) processes such as welding, stamping, joining, and assembly.
* Proven experience in cost reduction initiatives,
* Familiarity with automotive supplier collaboration and cost benchmarking
Skills and competencies
* Good level of English and ability to work in a global team (written and oral).
* Strong knowledge of BIW manufacturing processes (stamping, welding, adhesives, and joining technologies).
* Proficiency in cost analysis tools and methodologies
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
* Understanding of automotive quality standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, etc.).
* Knowledge in CAD is valuable
