The Politecnico di Torino, Italy, is now accepting applications for its 41st Cycle of PhD programs across various disciplines. Some programs are offered in collaboration with institutions such as Tsinghua University, Kansai Medical University, and Università degli Studi di Torino.
Successful applicants from the first session will begin their PhD on 1 November 2025, while those selected in the second session will start on 1 March 2026.
For this Cycle, at least 96 fully funded PhD scholarships are available, with distribution across two selection sessions. The final number of positions per session and program will be confirmed six days before the oral interviews, as determined by the Admissions Committee. PhD positions are categorized into fully funded positions, positions with predefined research topics, apprenticeship-based PhDs, and reserved positions for specific groups such as scholarship holders, refugees, or research fellows.
This call welcomes applications from candidates worldwide, including those from developing countries and refugees under the POLITO for REFUGEES initiative. Successful applicants will have access to state-of-the-art facilities, mentorship from leading researchers, and a vibrant international academic community.

Benefits and Scholarships
Selected PhD candidates will receive:
* Full tuition waiver for the entire duration of the PhD.
* An annual scholarship of €18,854.52 (gross), with a net monthly stipend of approximately €1,386 (Tax-Free)
* Additional funding for research activities during 36 months (10% of the total scholarship amount)
* 50% increase in scholarships for research periods spent abroad.
* Reserved PhD positions for refugees through the POLITO for REFUGEES initiative

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:
* Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) with a minimum grade of 95/110 for Italian degrees or meet the minimum GPA requirement for foreign degrees.
* Demonstrate proficiency in English (B2 level) through an accepted language certificate:
o IELTS: 5.5
o PTE Academic – 59
o TOEFL iBT, Home Edition, and Paper Edition – 72
o Minimum Score (Cambridge English Scale): 160
o TOEIC:
+ Listening: 400
+ Reading: 385
+ Speaking: 160
+ Writing: 150
* Have a strong academic background in a relevant field of study.
* Submit a complete application before the deadline.
* Applicants to the POLITO for REFUGEES program hold international protection status and provide the necessary documentation.
* Applicants without a Master’s degree at the time of application may still apply under conditions and must complete their degree before:
o 31 October 2025 (for first-session applicants)
o 31 January 2026 (for second-session applicants)

Required Documents
Applicants must submit the following documents:
Mandatory Documents:
* Valid identification document (passport or national ID).
* Master’s degree certificate and transcripts (for foreign degrees, an official translation may be required).
* Proof of English proficiency
* Abstract of the Master’s thesis (in English, 3,000–6,000 characters).
* Statement of Purpose (SoP) outlining research interests and motivation for pursuing a PhD.
* Names and email addresses of two references (preferably one from Politecnico di Torino and one external)
Optional Documents (Recommended):
* Recommendation letters from faculty members or employers.
* Published research papers (if applicable)
* Additional degrees, awards, or relevant certifications
Required Documents for Refugees:
* Bachelor’s and Master’s degree certificates with transcripts and a CIMEA certificate or declaration of value (free for refugees)
* European Qualifications Passport for Refugees (if official degree documents are unavailable)
* Proof of international protection status (document number, date, issuing authority).
* Residence permit details (number, date, issuing authority).
* Motivation letter explaining research interests and PhD goals.
* Two referees’ names (one preferably from Politecnico di Torino).
Important notes for refugees:
* Candidates can apply for up to two PhD programs.
* IELTS (5.5) or equivalent is NOT required for this Project.
* A Master’s degree must be obtained before the deadlines specified

Selection Process and Criteria
A University Examination Board reviews foreign degrees after an initial check by the administrative office. Results are posted on the Politecnico di Torino website; no personal notifications are sent.
Evaluation Criteria
Applicants are assessed based on a 100-point system as follows:
* Qualifications (Max. 40 points)
o Publications: Up to 10 points
o Master’s Degree Academic Performance: Up to 10 points
o GRE Scores (if submitted): Up to 6 points
* Statement of Purpose & Recommendation Letters (Max. 20 points)
o Research interests, motivation, and supporting references.
* Interview (Max. 40 points)
o Evaluation of academic background, research potential, and program fit
How to Accept or Decline an Offer
For Fully Funded PhD Positions with Predefined Research Topics:
* Review the research topic and required competencies in the scholarship details.
* Contact the assigned professor if needed.
* Select up to 5 preferences on the Apply@polito platform.
* You can submit selections from 5 days before the interview start date until noon (CET) the day before the interview.
For Applicants Declining Scholarships or Apprenticeship Positions:
* Explicitly waive the scholarship via the Apply@polito platform.
* The waiver option is available from 5 days before the interviews until noon (CET) the day before the interview.
* Choices cannot be changed once submitted.
Important: If no non-scholarship positions are available, rejecting all scholarships may result in application rejection, except for positions reserved for research fellows.
