Description of the Role:
YCOM is seeking a Vehicle Dynamics Engineer - Motorsport and Testing to support the Technical Office in defining vehicle specifications and performance targets, optimizing vehicle dynamics, and collaborating with the track engineering team to ensure setup objectives are achieved.
Responsibilities:
The selected person will join the Vehicle Science division within the Technical Department and will be responsible for providing technical support during the vehicle conceptualization phase, defining performance objectives, vehicle specifications, and key parameters of vehicle dynamics, including tires, powertrain, and aerodynamics.
The person will develop and optimise vehicle dynamics, working closely with the race team to achieve setup goals, analysing test data to improve performance, and evaluating the vehicle's response to setup changes.
The role includes supporting track tests by planning and executing rigorous testing plans, collecting and analysing telemetry data.
The candidate will use vehicle dynamics simulation tools to model and predict vehicle behavior, improving design and setup processes. Additionally, he/she will assist the workshop during vehicle assembly and shakedown tests, preparing reports and implementing necessary corrections.
Requirements:
* Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related fields
* At least 3 years of experience in a similar role and knowledge of suspension geometry, tire modeling, damper tuning, aerodynamics, powertrain, and other vehicle systems relevant to motorsport
* Strong understanding of race car-specific requirements, including handling, tire modeling, and on-track performance.
* Practical experience in vehicle testing on circuits, track days, and performance development, or experience with race teams in a motorsport environment
* Knowledge and use of simulation tools (e.g., Vi-Grade, Canopy, Dimola, or similar), telemetry systems, and data analysis software
* Familiarity with motorsport-specific software, such as Bosch Suite, MoTeC, Pi, Marelli, or other telemetry and data acquisition systems
Key Skills:
* Expertise in identifying and resolving vehicle performance issues under high-pressure conditions and tight deadlines
* Strong ability to interpret complex data and translate it into actionable performance improvements
* Excellent organizational skills to meet assigned deadlines
* Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues, clients, and drivers
