Information regarding the research Centres, their activities and production are available at http://www.fbk.eu/research-centers. In particular, the FBK Centre for Sensors and Devices (FBK-SD) (https://www.fbk.eu/en/sensors-devices/) is an applied research centre operating in the following scientific and technological areas: quantum technologies, detectors, microsystems and integrated systems. The FBK-SD has extremely advanced technical knowhow in innovative devices design and fabrication technologies as well as in the system integration. The strategic mission of the FBK-SD is scientific excellence combined with the ability to exploit research results. The innovation model is open to collaboration in national and international expertise networks. Workplace Description The candidate will be working in the Microsystems Technology (MST) unit of FBK-SD. The MST Group uses industry standard semiconductor wafer fabrication equipment to prototype innovative devices based on various technologies for MEMS devices, which can be used in different areas of application. In addition to world class research, we are involved in projects and innovation activities with international and local industrial and academic partners. The candidate will be working in collaboration with the micro-nanofabrication laboratories of FBK-SD, including the two main cleanrooms: one mainly dedicated to CMOS-compatible devices, e.g. radiation detectors, and the second one dedicated to non-CMOS compatible processes for microdevices and sensors for different applications. The microfabrication area also includes a testing infrastructure, a packaging cleanroom, and an integration laboratory. Background information and description of research projects This position is offered within the IPCEI ME/CT project. In the IPCEI ME/CT project, FBK aims to significantly expand and improve its manufacturing and integration facilities to achieve high-level, reliable heterogeneous production capabilities to maximise research and competitiveness in the market. In IPCEI ME/CT, FBK is mainly working on the integration of new materials (Silicon Carbide & Germanium-on-Silicon) and hetero-integration to extend the capabilities of already established silicon platforms for different classes of devices. Job Description This position will be focusing on the development of novel MEMS sensors and devices for harsh environments, contributing the development of the novel SiC technologies implemented in the IPCEI ME/CT project at FBK. The work activity of the required figure will be dedicated to the conceptualization, design, simulation and experimental verification of MEMS sensors for harsh environments, in particular using thermo-electrical and electro-mechanical concepts. The candidate will contribute to the definition of novel SiC-based technologies in a multidisciplinary team, especially by designing the sensor devices, evaluating the expected performances by testing and modelling, and reviewing the device manufacturability. A part of the activity will be dedicated to the preparation of setups and procedures for test activities, data analysis and performance evaluation in general. Job requirements The requirements for the position are: PhD degree, preferably in the field of physics, chemistry and electronic, material or mechanical engineering, obtained before the contract starting date, or at least three years of research experience in relevant fields; Solid background and experience in the field of MEMS devices; Solid background and experience in design, multiphysics FEM simulation, analytical modelling of MEMS devices; Experience in MEMS microfabrication technology; Language assessment according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): level of knowledge required. Knowledge of English will be verified during the interview on a technical or scientific topic and must be equal to or exceed level B2. Definitions of levels can be found at the following link https://www.coe.int/en/web/common-european-framework-reference-languages/level-descriptions; Work experience within research projects; Teamwork approach, good communication and relational skills; Pronounced abilities in prioritizing tasks and effective time management; Strong orientation to results, determination, flexibility and aptitude for problem-solving. The following requirements will provide additional score in the evaluation process: Knowledge of SiC-based technologies; Experience in harsh environment sensors; Experience in sensor testing and sensor systems; Knowledge of both written and spoken Italian. Employment Type of contract: fixed-term contract Working hours: full-time (38 h per week) Start date: Indicatively in June-July 2025 Duration: 36 months Contract type: CCPL Research Foundation Personnel (https://trasparenza.fbk.eu/ita/Personale/Contrattazione-collettiva/Rinnovo-CCPL-delle-Fondazioni) for a third level Scientist, the current gross annual remuneration is Euro 44.087,26 Workplace: Povo, Trento (Italy) Benefits: flexi-time, company subsidized cafeteria or meal vouchers, internal car park, welcome office support for visa formalities and for research in accommodation, supplementary pension (Resaver, Laborfonds) and health fund (Sanifonds), family-work balance, free training courses, support on bank account opening, discount on public transport, sport, language course fees, counseling and psychological support service.
