JRC.D.2, in collaboration with various Commission services and stakeholders—most notably DG HERA, DG ENV, DG SANTE, and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)—is spearheading the development of the Wastewater Observatory for Public Health. This initiative focuses on establishing the technical and scientific foundations necessary for deploying wastewater surveillance as a vital tool for public health monitoring. Your role: Definition of Data Entry Protocols: Define and oversee the collection, verification, and entry of data into relevant databases, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standardized formats. Preparation of Pathogen Monitoring Initiatives: Prepare and facilitate the operationalization and analysis processes for the EU Super-Sites Sentinel System (EU4S). Management of Data Integration: Manage the coordination and integration of wastewater analysis data into the Digital European Exchange Platform (DEEP). Development and Maintenance of Educational Programs: Develop and maintain educational materials and programs through the EU Wastewater Academy for Public Health. Support for Coordination and Review of Global Initiatives: Support the JRC Project Manager in the coordination and review of activities related to the Global Consortium for Wastewater Surveillance (GLOWACON) and stakeholder engagement. Reporting of Project Progress: Report on project milestones, deliverables, and outcomes through technical reports and presentations. Assistance with Research Efforts: Assist in the dissemination of research findings and promotion of best practices in wastewater surveillance. Assistance to the Interaction with Stakeholders: Support the project manager in interactions with public health authorities, academic institutions, and private-sector entities to foster collaborations and support surveillance initiatives. Computer Tools for Identification and Structure Elucidation: Proficiency in computer tools for the identification and structure elucidation of antibiotics and their metabolites, which supports data management and entry tasks. Excellent expertise with business process analysis (min. competence level 2). Non-Target Screening Workflows and Machine Learning: Experience with non-target screening workflows and machine learning in environmental or life sciences, beneficial for integrating data into digital platforms and ensuring accurate data analysis. Project Management and Coordination: Extensive project management experience, including monitoring resources and stakeholder engagement, aligns with the coordination and review of global initiatives and project progress reporting (min. competence level 2). Excellent expertise with requirements life-cycle management (gather, analyse, document, and change management) in the context of IT applications (min. competence level 5). Very good knowledge of biotechnology, micro-biology and related applications such as antimicrobial resistances as well as non-target screening. Good knowledge of software project management methodologies (e.g. PMP, PM², Agile, Kanban). Good knowledge of data management/processing in general. Familiarity with typical administrative business processes of large organisations. Experience working with collaborative sites, like Confluence Wiki, etc. Ability to engage with different stakeholders in different adjacent fields and work autonomously, efficiently and fast. Ability to apply high quality standards. Ability to cope with fast changing technologies used in measurement and testing of pathogens.
