Hauptaufgaben
Incumbent performs basic postal operations. Assists in receiving and processing personal and official mail. All accountable mail will be recorded prior to delivery to the addressee/organization. Routes mail to organizational segments and individuals, maintains control systems for the accountability of unclassified communications. Maintains support systems such as directories, mail count logs, distribution lists. Collects mail from outlying mail-collection boxes according to the scheduled pickup times, sorts and processes outgoing letters and flats using trays, sacks and standard process. Operates hand-held scanning equipment to process incoming and outgoing accountable mail, screens and processes directory mail to ensure proper endorsements, address, and delivery processes based on the status of the sender and the recipient. Prepares outgoing materials for dispatch ensuring such things as date stamping, verifying signatures and facing materials. Runs mail through sealing, metering, or canceling machines. Bundles and bags mail according to U.S. Postal Service regulations, sorts bulk mail, and prepares labels and envelopes. Screens mail of assigned receptacles for evidence of non-use, old mail, and incorrectly pitched mail. Manually loads and unloads vehicles carrying mail, operating conveyor belts, roller, or other mail-handling equipment. Sorts mail using scheme charts, exercising judgment to determine if mail can be sorted and delivered as addressed. Repairs, rewraps, and endorses received items that are damaged. Identifies and separates ordinary and accountable mail. Prepares reports, files various postal-service forms for notification to customers, and assigns receptacles and combinations to customers, providing instructions to customers who are authorized to use military postal privileges. Incumbent may be required to operate light vehicle, motorized mail cart, or other self-propelled vehicle in the delivery and pick up of mail, which could be on or off base. Performs clerical duties such as storing and distributing internal management documents, maintaining required stock of forms and supplies, maintaining counts of material dispatched, obtaining receipt-acknowledged signatures, operating mailroom equipment. Sets up, classifies, cross-references, and maintains a variety of subject matter files arranged alphabetically, numerically, or chronologically, containing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and miscellaneous data. Periodically segregates, screens, selects, and assembles file material for destruction or transfer to a records depository, in accordance with established instructions, procedures, etc. Helps keeping the facility lobby and other common areas clean. Operates standard office computer equipment. Types correspondence as necessary and completes forms and receipts. Services of a qualified typist are not required.
NOTE: Work involves substantial walking and standing, as well as lifting and carrying of heavy weights. Tour of duty is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 0900 to 1800.
Overtime, evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required based on operational needs. Annual leave will not normally be granted for the period of 1 November to 15 January except for emergencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet the qualification requirements in the "Qualification Standards" published by U.S. Office of Personnel Management, as summarized below.
EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of 1 year of General Experience.
General Experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work which indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Education may be substituted for experience in accordance with the "Qualification Standards" published by U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
