Job Description:
The Controls Lead Engineer is responsible for managing all engineering activities related to Controls Hardware and Software. This includes estimating and managing project risks, planning and scheduling, and acting as the point of contact for controls engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
* Identify improvements to engineering processes and prepare supporting documentation
* Support the Sales team during the sales phase by providing technical advice, creating project schedules, and understanding the required engineering skill set
* Review the As Sold solution
* Ensure that resources from the Controls Engineering Team have the right skill set to execute the project
* Act as the main Controls Engineering point of contact for Project Manager, Site Manager, Procurement, Manufacturing, Client Architect, Builder, and Design Consultants
* Lead project Controls Engineering teams through task allocation and reporting
* Create and update Controls Engineering project status reports, financial forecasts, and schedule updates (resource updates); ensure Controls Engineering cost control
* Document, escalate, and manage Controls Engineering project risks (preparation of Project Status Report / Project Variation Request)
* Ensure all project Quality Gates are met for Controls Engineering
* Conduct regular on-site safety audits when visiting a site; derive actions
* Identify and propose Lean improvements
* Support lessons learned sessions and project closing
Deliverables:
* Ensure BOMs for Controls Engineering hardware have been done and ordered
* Ensure procurement of parts, manufacturing of cabinets, and tender for electrical installation is executed according to the timeline
* Check and approve specifications for purchase items/services
* Ensure quality of all necessary documentation to execute installation on site has been provided on time
* Manage Completion of Design Risk Assessment and Safety design validation during controls design stage
* Clarify definitions on electrical design that impact customers (TNS or TNCS earthing of power supply locations, etc.)
* Ensure that check lists for the installation have been done and site is ready for commissioning
* Ensure delivery of emulated PLC programs and device configurations to Pre-commissioning team
* Ensure commissioning plan checklists/test creation and provide the update on progress
* Transmitting layout, network, and schematic drawings to Emulation model building team and Electrical Installation
* Ensure correct transmittal of all Controls Engineering Deliverables to the Customer (layout drawings, network, and schematic drawings)
* Support/assist with preparation of Functional Description Specifications
* Create Description Of Operation, align with technical team, and obtain customer approval
* Ensure the right technical information has been provided for the Customer Service training
* Ensure project technical documentation is completed, including operator manuals
* Ensure that Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) and risk assessments for the systems and products have been conducted
Qualifications and Requirements:
* Essential: Degree level of understanding in a technical Engineering discipline
* Desirable: Understanding/Qualification in Machinery Safety
* Experience in a similar role is desirable. 5+ years hands-on experience working within an industrial automation environment. Experience leading project teams on complex projects. Good understanding of project plans, project execution, and handover processes. A working understanding of technical manuals & drawings, Mechanical/Electrical. Working knowledge of ISO standards governing the automated warehouse industry
* Travel approx. 20 to 50% (depends on the stage of the project) within EMEA
