CMCC Position Junior Software Developer Deadline: November 15th, 2024 WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR The Global Coastal Ocean ( GOCO ) division at the Institute for Earth System Predictions ( IESP ) is looking for a talented Software Developer who will have a pivotal role by contributing to innovative activities supported by national and international projects in the following research areas: Integrated and high-resolution modeling of the coastal Earth system; Subregional to coastal climate downscaling; Estuarine dynamics and ecosystems; Numerical modeling and AI tool developments. ROLE The Software Developer is responsible for the porting/development/refactoring of the operational procedures and interactive tools in the frame of the atmosphere-hydrology-ocean modeling systems and data analysis. The Software Developer will also support their monitoring and the management of the internal and external data and repositories. RESPONSIBILITIES The Software Developer will support the GOCO Division activities, with: Implementation, maintenance, porting, monitoring, and recovery of all the climate simulation models and support pre and post-processing tools; Implementation and maintenance of shared libraries for data validation and visualization; Tracking failures of simulation chains through automatic procedures, also implementing automatic recovery and detailed reporting. REQUIREMENTS We are looking for a motivated person with the following requirements: Very good knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating systems and command line interface; Very good knowledge of programming languages (i.e., Python and Bash scripting); Very good knowledge of version control systems (i.e., git); Good knowledge of HPC architecture and job schedulers (i.e., IBM Spectrum LSF); Good background in management/manipulation/visualization of metocean data (i.e., NetCDF, CF metadata convention, GRIB, csv) and associated tools (NCO, CDO libraries). ADDITIONAL SKILLS : Good communication skills and teamworking attitude; An excellent knowledge of English language; PhD in Engineering/Mathematics/Physics. DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS The position will be based in Lecce CMCC office. The appointment period will be initially of 24 months starting from December 2024. The gross annual salary range for Junior Research Associate is from 28 to 36 k Euros, depending on qualification and working experience and with major research centres in Europe; Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract; Flexible working time as per internal policies; Support during the immigration process, if needed.
