Location: About the Team: At SLB Geosolutions in Milan we specialize in processing seismic, electromagnetic, and potential field geophysical data and we develop novel algorithm and software packages to manipulate these data, with application to petroleum, geothermal, mining and carbon storage. As we continue to grow and expand our digital offerings, we are seeking a newly graduated Software Geophysicist to join our dynamic team. We are pioneers in the energy industry, leveraging advanced technologies to revolutionize the way we process and analyze subsurface geophysical data. Our team specializes in developing state-of-the-art front-end applications and algorithms that play a crucial role in the exploration and production activities of our clients, including energy transition applications. The candidate will join a diverse team of Junior and Senior Software Engineers, spanning from 3 to 15 years of experience. Job Summary: The Software Geophysicist is responsible for designing and developing computational algorithms and software components based on mathematical or statistical models of physical phenomena. Where applicable, the Software Geophysicist develops new algorithms and models or extends existing software solutions. Responsibilities and Duties: Apply numerical analysis techniques as required to scientific problems to enable efficient solutions, and enhance code scalability and performance. Produce analyses and physical and mathematical models, and draw design conclusions based on those. Develop and test algorithms and code. Keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets. Adopt new practices readily to develop innovative and low-cost products. Ensure that product code and artifacts are managed and safeguarded in a configuration management system. Conduct or participate in technical reviews of requirements, designs, code and other artifacts. Provide timely corrective actions on defects. Contribute to development plans by providing task and effort estimates. Create and maintain product documentation. Author technical reports, papers, articles, patents and presentations. Comply with the project development process as defined by the Project Manager. Collaborate with subject matter experts to understand the geophysical problems to solve, and work with other engineers to define solutions that fit with our current technologies. Qualifications: Master's degree in Geophysics, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering field. Proficiency in coding with high-level programming languages such as Python or scientific computing scripting languages like MATLAB. Fluency in English. The desire to work on high-value, technically complex products. Be passionate about learning and research. Preferred Technical Skills Proficiency in C, C++ or FORTRAN programming languages, along with familiarity or experience with Java, Go, or .NET Framework. Strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly and confidently. Be eager to deliver results and meet demands. Familiarity with the domain of subsurface geophysical data processing is a plus, however, a willingness to learn and immerse oneself in the domain can also suffice.
