Job Summary: System Engineer involved in the design and technical development of inertial navigation systems for both the Industrial and Aerospace & Defense domains. Main tasks include analyzing customer requirements, generating system architecture, setting formal system requirements, defining methods for requirements validation, specifying procedures for design verification, supporting product installation into target platforms, and coordinating system development, integration, and qualification/certification activities, while maintaining continuous customer relationships for all technical aspects.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Support definition and drafting of the System Development Plans in accordance with recognized standards (ARP4754, ARP4761).
2. Organize and manage documentation for program development.
3. Define High-level System Requirements and System Architecture.
4. Flow down requirements from system to item level (SW, HW, MECH, etc.).
5. Review low-level requirements for various subassemblies and components (mechanical parts, electronic boards, optical and opto-electronics components, software and firmware modules, configuration parameters).
6. Conduct static and dynamic analysis of IMU performance.
7. Support the System Test Department in defining System Test procedures and Qualification Plans according to recognized standards (ARP-4754, DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461).
8. Support system integration and testing of INS/AHRS/IMU with complex software and hardware.
9. Review and approve technical design documents and data pertaining to the system under development.
10. Review acceptance test reports, qualification test reports, similarity analysis reports, and all technical studies related to the system under development.
11. Evaluate technical specifications included in the documentation package of the bid/request for proposal (RFP) to contribute to the preparation of the technical proposal and the compilation of the requirements compliance matrix.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. University degree in Electronics, Opto-Electronics, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent.
2. Knowledge of avionics, navigation, and related algorithms, as well as control systems theory.
3. Knowledge of main communication interfaces and protocols.
4. Knowledge of relevant System and Safety engineering standards such as ARP-4754, ARP-4761.
5. Knowledge of RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461 environmental/EMC test standards.
6. Knowledge of MathWorks MATLAB/Simulink.
7. Familiarity with requirements management tools (preferred IBM Rational DOORS).
8. Familiarity with system safety concepts and reliability assessment (PSSA, SSA, FMECA, FTA, etc.).
9. Ability to work in a team and under pressure.
10. Effective communication skills tailored to the audience and context within the technical team.
11. Capability to perform in-depth investigations of system failures or anomalies with a multidisciplinary approach.
12. Knowledge of the English language (at least intermediate level).
Preferred Skills:
1. Basic knowledge of reliability prediction standards (preferred MIL-HDBK-217F).
2. Basic knowledge of model-based design.
3. Basic knowledge of EASA and ESA documentation ruling the product qualification/certification.
