Position Title: Program TeacherDivision: Associated Students, Inc.Department: Isabel Patterson Child Development CenterReports To: Assistant DirectorFLSA Classification: Non-ExemptPayroll Classification: Full-Time, SalariedHR Approved: March 2025GENERAL STATEMENTThe Program Teacher is responsible within their assigned program (Infant Toddler, Preschool, School-age) for child supervision and guidance and for the planning, preparation, and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum for approximately 12-70 children per semester. Incumbent prepares the children’s environment keeping within the established philosophy and goals of the IPCDC. Maintains activity plans and records. Carries out Desired Results Developmental Profiles, Portfolios, Summaries, and IPCDC Checklists for assigned children and develops individual and group plans. Incumbent coordinates the program, supervises student assistants, and reports to parents in Head Teacher/Assistant Director absence. May open or close the facility as dictated by circumstances. Incumbents may be assigned to any age group as program needs are fluid and require flexibility.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assignedDevelops nurturing and trusting relationships with all children in accordance with the IPCDC philosophy. Provides direct supervision, demonstrating respect and acceptance for children and an understanding of their needs. Is aware of and provides for the special needs of children (i.e., medications, allergies, etc.). Demonstrate an understanding of the CDC philosophy, its application and skills: i.e., active listening, limit setting, problem solving. Serve as a daily mentor to student assistants in modeling and supporting the classroom.Coordinates efforts of the student assistant staff to maintain anecdotal notes on children’s development. Shares information and observations regarding children’s daily activities, progress, and development with Head Teacher/Assistant Director. Assist with the development of individual and group plans for children with distinct behavioral and/or developmental needs.Plans, prepares and provides a balance of adult-guided, readily available and long-term activities and projects. Develop curriculum areas, such as dramatic play, science, music, movement, carpentry, drama, cooperative sports, and games. Ensures that activities are developmentally appropriate, reflect the cultural heritage of the children, challenge gender and racial stereotypes, and show an appreciation for lifestyle diversity. Plans and implements activities for special needs children. Maintains inventory of curriculum supplies. Maintain activity records, tallies, and plans. Informs Head Teacher/Assistant Director of purchasing needs. Serve as a daily mentor to student assistants by modeling and supporting curriculum skills in the environment.Assists the Head Teacher/ Assistant Director with program planning and evaluation. Assists with training of program teachers and student assistant staff as defined with Head Teacher/Assistant Director. Offers ideas for program and staff development and evaluation. Offer ideas for program improvement. Attend all program staff meetings. Participates and plans professional staff retreats, program meetings, and a variety of training sessions. Attends Student Services Division meetings and ASI Staff Days. Participate in accreditation process.Serves as an active role model for co-workers concerning cultural awareness and appreciation of individual differences; gender and racial stereotyping; and appreciation for lifestyle differences. Participate in professional staff retreats, meetings and conferences. Attend weekly staff meetings. Lead weekly meetings in small groups. Attend minimum of two approved professional trainings per year. Keep abreast of current trends within the child development field. Participates in professional staff development programs and webinars.Completes child assessments and developmental summaries. Complete state required Desired Results Profiles, Portfolios and Summaries. Complete Environmental Rating Scales and IPCDC Checklists.Carry out paperwork responsibilities required by daily routines: i.e., injury reports, observations, communications records, diapering/toileting, meal counts, etc. Carries out additional paperwork responsibilities required by routines (e.g., injury, meal, communication, etc.).Continuously inspects environment for health and safety. Report unsafe conditions. Inform director or assistant director of facility and grounds safety needs. Evaluates setting and develops its maximum potential as a comfortable and interesting environment. Create aesthetic environments that exhibit knowledge of the progression of the ECE field. i.e., Reggio Emilia, Constructivism, and Resources for Infant Educarers (R.I.E). Maintain a safe, comfortable, and Developmentally Appropriate Environment (DAP) that provides challenges for all children. Maintains/organizes environment in accordance with Environmental Rating Scales.Establishes working professional relationships with parents. Knows all parents by name, greets them, and shares information about their child(ren). Communicate daily with parents. Share information about children’s experiences and well-being. Encourages parent involvement. Demonstrates an understanding of lifestyle and parenting diversity. Instill confidence in parents. Demonstrate understanding, acceptance, and use mature judgment.Assists in the development and implementation of fundraising activities and Center events and is required to attend. Assists with work parties and provides suggestions for agendas. Seeks out free and donated supplies. Supervise and/or facilitate parent education class one time per semester.May create virtual learning content and in addition provide zoom sessions for student assistants and children as needed for the program.Disseminates important information.Demonstrates a positive, cooperative, and creative problem-solving attitude and responsibility for personal development.Housekeeping tasks of the program as needed and maintenance to ensure safety (i.e., dusting, mopping, sweeping, sanding, sanitizing).MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and/or Experience24 units of coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development including core courses, plus 16 units of General Education; and 175 days of experience at a minimum of three hours per day in an early childhood education setting; or an Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field with three semester units of supervised field experience in an ECE setting; or CTC approved training.Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsChild Development Teacher Permit or higherHealth Safety Certification licenseCPR, First Aid, Preventative Health and SafetyKnowledge and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of how to plan and implement age-appropriate curriculum. General knowledge of pertinent state and federal regulations relating to the daily operations of an early childhood education center including licensing regulations, education regulations, child abuse reporting requirements, and public health and sanitation codes and requirements. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
