Offer Description
The aim of the project is both to maintain the current collection of strains of lignicolous fungi and to increase the biodiversity of different taxonomic groups. The research work involves the isolation and characterization of strains from sporophores that grow in little-explored environments (e.g., Mediterranean scrubland) or that belong to critical taxonomic groups (e.g., Corticiaceae).
The newly isolated strains will also be characterized through omics sciences, particularly proteomics and metabolomics, to identify new potential applications in various fields such as nutraceuticals, cosmetics, bioremediation, and especially agro-industrial waste recycling and valorization.
The strains will be maintained in DSTA's research collection (MicUNIPV).
Main Requirements
1. Degree (with a course duration of not less than 4 years) or post-graduate degrees awarded by Italian or foreign Universities recognized as equivalent.
2. Scientific or professional curriculum suitable for conducting the research activity.
3. If available, any Ph.D. title.
Further Specific Assessable Qualifications
1. Documented research experience on:
* Isolation and taxonomic identification of fungal strains, including through biomolecular analysis
* Maintenance of fungal strains
* Characterization of mycelia of lignicolous fungi
* Techniques for selection of strains useful for degradation of recalcitrant material
1. Scientific publications consistent with the research activity envisaged by the Fellowship.
2. Previous ownership of grants for research activities related to the topic of the Research Fellowship.
