Job Description
CAD Designer – Formula 1 Chassis & Composite Components
We are seeking a highly skilled CAD Designer to join our Formula 1 chassis design team, specializing in the development of composite components and assemblies. This role involves the design, optimization, and engineering of high-performance composite structures and related equipment essential to the car’s performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and develop composite components and assemblies for the chassis area, including chassis, bodywork, wings, suspension components, brake ducts, gearbox casings, and driver fit elements.
* Utilise solid modeling, surface modeling, 2D drafting, and 2D/3D playbooks to optimize part geometry for performance, weight, and manufacturability.
* Create tooling and equipment designs necessary for the industrialization of composite parts, such as models, molds, and bonding fixtures.
* Ensure designs meet stringent structural, aerodynamic, and weight requirements, balancing performance, reliability, and production feasibility.
* Work within PLM Windchill for design data management, ensuring accuracy, revision control, and efficient collaboration.
* Apply expertise in Catia V5, with a preference for experience in CPE/CPM modules, to deliver high-quality CAD models and technical drawings.
* Collaborate closely with aerodynamics, structural analysis, manufacturing, and race engineering teams to refine and validate designs.
Required Skills & Experience:
* Proven experience as a CAD Designer in motorsport, aerospace, or high-performance engineering environments.
* Strong proficiency in Catia V5, with knowledge of CPE/CPM modules being a plus.
* Experience in composite materials design, including an understanding of layup strategies, manufacturing constraints, and bonding techniques.
* Familiarity with PLM Windchill or similar Product Lifecycle Management systems.
* Ability to interpret and generate 2D technical drawings and 3D models with precision.
* Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on design optimization, weight reduction, and manufacturability.
* Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, ensuring smooth collaboration across departments.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
* Prior experience in Formula 1, LMP, or other high-level motorsport categories.
* Understanding of aerodynamic and structural performance requirements in motorsport applications.
* Knowledge of manufacturing techniques for composites, including autoclave curing, RTM, and hand layup processes.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge Formula 1 components, pushing the limits of performance, precision, and innovation in one of the most demanding engineering environments in the world.
