ROLE
The researcher is responsible for the development of new methods for modeling the effect of disturbances (e.g. deforestation, fires) on the carbon cycle.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The researcher will support the IAFES team with:
1. The modeling of the effect of climate- and human-induced disturbances (i.e. drought, heat waves, fires) on ecosystem processes and productivity.
2. The fine-tuning of remote-based algorithms to advance the current knowledge of carbon cycle.
3. The testing and evaluation of the multiple Earth observation data across different regions where the carbon cycle is still uncertain.
REQUIREMENTS
1. PhD in remote sensing, climate science, ecology, geography, or equivalent subjects.
2. Master’s degree in environmental sciences or equivalent subjects.
3. Minimum of 2 years of work experience in remote sensing and carbon cycle modeling.
4. Knowledge of vegetation dynamics and carbon stocks from observations and models.
5. Excellent knowledge in modeling photosynthesis, ecosystem dynamics, disturbances (i.e. fires, deforestation) using satellite products (e.g. Solar Induced Florescence (SIF)).
6. Excellent knowledge of modeling biomass and changes in carbon stocks using remote sensing data (e.g. Vertical Optical Depth (VOD), SIF, Lidar).
7. Excellent programming skills in Fortran and Python.
8. Very good knowledge of the English language.
9. Strong knowledge of statistics and data science.
DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
1. Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
