As the Transportation Public Information Specialist, you will create messages designed for our internal workforce statewide, including preparation of materials for conferences, newsletters, podcast segments, videos, public speaking, and other media. You will disseminate messages from management through all levels of the organization and connect with employees, featuring their good works for social media and other media. This position involves writing, editing, and producing a variety of educational, informational, and promotional multimedia materials. You will plan and participate in public hearings and press opportunities, and frequently communicate with various media sources. This position allows for independent decision-making within established guidelines, although work will be reviewed by a senior-level manager.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
* Knowledge of public relations, writing, videography, photography, video and photo editing, publishing, sound recording, public speaking, event organization, and research.
* Experience in multiple areas is preferred, with a demonstration of work during the interview process.
* Must be deadline-driven, organized, efficient, self-motivated, and able to travel statewide.
* Willingness to work overtime and holidays as required.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
* Write and edit brochures, newsletters, departmental publications, and consumer informational materials.
* Collect information and write news releases covering departmental activities for various media.
* Obtain story materials through personal interviews.
* Plan and participate in public hearings and press opportunities.
* Produce and present radio and television programs concerning educational and promotional activities.
* Create interactive designs and test communication campaigns for web and online media.
* Compose layouts for web and online campaigns.
* Participate in developing online marketing strategies.
* Answer correspondence and calls related to promotional matters.
* Attend public meetings and events to gather information.
* Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver’s license is necessary.
Required Skills and Knowledge
* Knowledge of journalism methods and techniques for publicity materials.
* Knowledge of English grammar, research techniques, and composition.
* Knowledge of technical procedures in writing, editing, printing, and marketing.
* Knowledge of radio and television production techniques.
* Knowledge of division or department programs and policies.
* Knowledge of graphics composition and layout procedures.
* Knowledge of HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, and online marketing trends.
* Ability to organize and present informational materials clearly and appealingly.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
* Ability to gather information through research, observation, or interviews.
Required Education and Experience
Training/Education:
* Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in communications, fine arts, journalism, graphic design, marketing, public relations, English, or a related field.
* Experience may substitute for education through an established formula.
Experience:
* One (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in public information dissemination.
* Graduate coursework may substitute for required experience through an established formula.
