Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run. As Deputy Lead Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and deployment of modular and reusable spacecraft, such as Nyx. You will support the Lead Systems Engineer in overseeing spacecraft integration, verification and certification while driving innovation and ensuring project milestones are met on time and with the highest technical quality. Key Responsibilities Requirement Management : Develop, manage, and validate system-level requirements and ensure alignment with mission objectives. Integration and Testing : Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of system integration, joint testing and end-to-end testing campaigns. Risk Management : Oversee detailed trade-off analyses, risk assessments, and mitigation planning for critical spacecraft subsystems. Design & Safety Reviews : Support design and safety reviews (PDR, CDR, Qualification Review, phased safety reviews), ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards. Collaboration : Work closely with cross-functional (mechanical, software, propulsion, etc.) and geographically dispersed teams to drive design consistency and resolve technical challenges. Continuous Improvement : Identify and implement innovations to improve spacecraft performance, sustainability, schedule and cost-efficiency. Documentation : Generate and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, test plans, and operational procedures. What We Would Love to See from You Educational Background : A degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field. Advanced degrees are a plus. Experience : Extensive experience in systems engineering, requirement verification and/or safety roles, preferably within the aerospace industry. Proven track record of delivering complex space systems (satellites, spacecraft, or launch vehicles). Technical Skills : Strong knowledge of spacecraft subsystems (propulsion, avionics, thermal, or re-entry systems). Proficiency in systems engineering tools (e.g., DOORS, MATLAB, Simulink, or similar). Familiarity with space industry standards (e.g., ECSS, NASA standards). Leadership : Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers. Problem-Solving : Analytical mindset with exceptional troubleshooting skills and a focus on results.
