The Amazon EU Design and Construction team is seeking a talented EU Fire Strategy Manager to support the expansion of the Amazon network.
Our team manages the end-to-end process of design, permitting, construction and delivery of innovative and highly technological distribution centers.
The Fire Strategy Manager will develop and manage a standardized approach to fire engineering strategy across the EU countries for the Amazon REI and compliance programs. The successful candidate will therefore possess a thorough understanding of professional-level fire protection engineering services such as life safety code consulting, sprinkler design, performance-based fire engineering designs and solutions.
We’re looking for an individual who has significant experience in warehousing or industrial operations permitting and in fire protection strategy or design.

The role will be based in Germany or Italy with 40% of time traveling either domestically or to other EMEA countries.
Key job responsibilities
- Assists in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigations or inspections, detailed checking of design done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project
- Identifies applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries
- Conducts building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and basic sprinkler systems reviews
- Defines and drives the improvement oriented to an EU-wide standardization of the fire strategy of the Amazon Fulfillment Centers.
- Carries out onsite assessment of the fire strategy in line with industry norms, during construction, post construction review and for life cycle of the buildings.

- Reviews proposed designs
- Provides strategic and tactical advice on Fire Strategy Implementation
- Assesses sites in the live environment for regulatory compliance
- Risk Assessment for Operations and The GES critical business partners

A day in the life
The primary focus of the role is to deliver a fire strategy performance basis for the Amazon Building network. This includes a broad interaction with Amazon stakeholders from early concept design, through delivery and lifecycle of the building. The role allows for independent working and the provision of expert fire safety opinion in both daily operations and future concept design, across a wide geography of countries.
About the team
The Fire Strategy Team is part of the Global Engineering Services (GES) pillar of Amazon. The team is a small dynamic team that flexes between Performance Based Design and Risk Assessment to product assessment, legislative guidance and development of complex equipment specifications. As part of a critical team there is a large scope to enhance the Amazon building and Associate safety and experience.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree
- Demonstrated knowledge of EU building (Country equivalents) and fire regulations (NFPA / EU equivalents)
- Demonstrated knowledge of fire engineering principles and practices in industrial / logistics buildings
- Track record of solving challenging, complex permitting activities
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills to interact and negotiate with technical and institutional stakeholders, both internal and external
- Ability to build trustful relationships with private and public partners.
- Fluency in English is a must, working knowledge in another EU language is required, Italian or German preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Fire Engineering experience in EU countries.
- Fire Engineering experience in Germany or Italy.
- Knowledge in CFD modelling and application.
- Working Knowledge of Sprinkler codes, design and installation.
- On site experience of Fire Safety Assessment.
- Outstanding ability to look around the corners, entrepreneurial mindset, innovation-driven character.
- German, French, Polish, Arabic, Turkish are considered preferred qualification.
