Accounting Manager – International Payroll
Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercialises innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. General Job Requirements:
Reporting to the Payroll Director, Global Financial Solutions (GFS), this position will be responsible for the payroll accounting team and all associated requirements of payroll accounting function.
Job duties include:
* The development of strong relationships with key stakeholders, in particular with market finance teams across EMEA, APAC and US.
* Maintains ledger integrity and ensures financial compliance with the worldwide Controller’s manual and to all applicable laws and regulations.
* Ensure financial records are in compliance with GAAP.
* Consistently maintains appropriate internal controls and upholds company policies and procedures including Worldwide Controller’s manual.
* Manages, prepares, administers, and directs the accounting close and financial reporting process for the payroll function.
* Responsible for the timely and accurate review of month-end close and accounting transactions; P&L and balance sheet account analysis, review, reconciliation, and resolution.
* Contribution to the definition and maintenance of key performance indicators (KPIs) and the establishment of a continuous improvement culture.
* Lead audits for Payroll and interacts successfully with internal and external auditors and supports quarter-end, interim and year-end audits by providing timely and accurate data and communication.
* Coordination of Balance Sheet Reviews with the relevant Controller and Market Finance Leads.
* Lead with Controllership on ad hoc requirements.
* Key payrolls contact and leads & completes accounting tasks for our key markets e.g. France, Spain, Italy.
* Lead Blackline and all required reconciliations per month end close cycle.
* Support on tax queries from market and interactions with Deloitte as needed.
* Support the monthly operations decks process for one or more entities within the GFS.
* Responsibility for Accounting SOX Compliance and controls for all markets within the GFS.
* Responsible for leading IPE within accounting team and all related audit requirements in this area.
* Responsible for performance management and development of staff.
* Ability to travel is necessary if required.
The person we seek will ideally have payroll accounting experience in a similar organization operating in several major countries in EMEA, LATAM & Asiapac and in depth knowledge of general accounting policies and procedures. Experienced and knowledgeable in a shared services payroll environment.
Qualified Accountant or person with an equivalent accountancy qualification with a fundamental understanding of what it takes to operate within a multi-country environment in a multi-national corporation. Capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously, working under pressure and to meet strict reporting deadlines. People management experience is essential.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - the ability to work effectively across multiple functions and different cultures. Self-starter and able to act on own initiative, with high levels of integrity, excellence and teamwork. Detailed knowledge and experience of SOX Compliance.
Established experience preferably within a Multinational Company. Ability to interact successfully with non-financial personnel as well as with internal and external auditors.
This role requires a flexible and adaptable individual, an individual who has strong peripheral vision to allow them to capture accounting related matters in established markets and work closely with the multiple stakeholders to ensure compliance.
Working knowledge and experience of Oracle / SAP or similar ERP product would be beneficial. Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Outlook, and Word) required. Proven analytical ability and creative problem-solving skills.
