What will you be doing?
Industrial Designers are responsible for the design of physical touchpoints and convergent products that embed digital experiences. They use their broad skillset along the whole physical product lifecycle from early-stage idea generation to the creation of branded product vision and user scenarios until detailed design of product features.
As a Senior Industrial Designer, you are expected to represent depth in the craft of industrial design: as an individual contributor, as a mentor and guide for more junior colleagues, and as a contributor to the global community of practice. You will often be the backbone of your projects from beginning to end. You will plan, prioritise, and deliver industrial design activities autonomously, in the context of interdisciplinary projects. You will lead client conversations within your domain, providing articulate recommendations and helping guide client choices. You will have opportunities to lead small teams on projects and contribute to business development through proposal-writing and pitches.
On a typical project you will:
* Understand goals, business requirements and constraints, market opportunities and user needs to help define opportunity areas and product design requirements.
* Lead product design analysis of existing solutions and opportunity spaces and contribute to user experience understanding, among different parties.
* Support the definition of new product/service value proposition and implementation roadmaps.
* Ideate, conceptualise and visualise physical product designs and physical interactions using sketching (analog and digital), 3D CAD and renderings, hand-built physical mock-ups and 3D prints.
* Define high-quality physical product and convergent experience concepts in collaboration with the larger design, strategy and engineering teams.
* Contribute to planning, conduct, and synthesise user research, testing and piloting activities with end users and stakeholders to review product design hypothesis.
* Analise product architectures and develop new concepts considering ergonomics, usability, experience workflows and functional technical requirements, using sketches, illustration diagrams, 3d cad layout and architectural mock-ups.
* Define strategic product design languages and aesthetic directions that can make the product iconic, unique, and recognisable, but most importantly speak to brand values and the unmet needs of end customers.
* Craft details and signature elements in the product that are meaningful, that make people love the experience and build long-lasting relationships with the product and brand.
* Develop 3d cad files, both for concept definition and design refinement, creating class-A surface creation and managing parametric cad assemblies (Rhino, Fusion) collaborating with mechanical engineering team.
* Build physical and virtual prototypes to simulate the experience with a product, including how it looks and feels, moments of interaction, and how it might be manufactured.
* Prepare product renderings (using Keyshot, Blender) and assets for AR and VR simulation.
* Coordinate prototype suppliers in the appearance model realisation, detailing CMF and prototypes specifications.
* Develop user experience scenarios and journeys integrating physical, digital and service interactions, sketching use cases and hero moments.
* Document product design and create guidelines for following stages of implementation as well as explanation of design principles.
* Advocate for and pursue cross-disciplinary and convergent opportunity areas for design innovation, developing an holistic strategic perspective.
We want you to have:
* 5+ years of professional experience in industrial design and product development
* Highly developed design skills, demonstrated in your portfolio of recent work.
* Confident verbal and visual presentation and storytelling abilities.
* Interest for projects on intelligent products and services that leverage digital, connectivity and data to create new value and business models.
* Demonstrated human empathy and experience in user research with insight and opportunity identification.
* Ability to explore and ideate new ideas across a diverse range of domains.
* Excellent aesthetic sensitivity in form development, proportions, composition, details and advanced surfacing techniques
* Experience collaborating in multi-functional teams.
* Proficiency with the latest contemporary design tools, methods and a love for process (3d Cad, Visualization, 3d printing, gen AI workflows)
* Strong passion for sustainability in product design that minimizes impacts on the environment, and encourages new and more sustainable behavior
* Professional positive attitude and a passion for your career in design.
* Affinity with frog’s values, and a passion for creating products that meet people’s functional and emotional needs.
* Willingness to travel for research, project delivery, and client meetings.
* Business level ability in English.
It would be a bonus if you had:
A university degree in Industrial Design, or a related physical product design degree.
Experience working in a variety of organisations (start-up, corporate, agency/consultancy).
Experience on the design of both consumer products and healthcare, developing medical devices
Academic, professional, or life experience from outside the design field that enriches your perspective as a designer.
A second language (and every additional language is a plus!).
